ASSIGNMENT 4: LESSONS FROM THE CLASSROOM

Please check whether you have managed to:

Aim:

 To reflect both on yourself as a teacher and on the methods and techniques

you have been using in your teaching. To reflect on the implications for your
own teaching from the observations of other teachers. To make you think
about your development as a teacher.

Length:

 750 - 1000 words

Procedure:

Part One (400 words)

Put yourself in the place of one of the students in your TP lessons. Try to see
yourself as a teacher from the student’s point of view, and write (in the third person)
a description/evaluation of your teaching, focusing both on specific aspects of your
lessons (e.g. atmosphere, your personality, your reactions to different students) and
on the techniques that you have used (e.g. pair work, elicitation, etc).

Part Two (600 words)

You are yourself now – write this part in the first person singular.

 From the above, consider your strengths and weaknesses as a teacher and
prioritise areas for attention and development. With problem areas, describe
what you are aiming for, and how you intend to go about working on these
areas.

 Refer to your observations of other teachers, both peers in your TP group

and experienced teachers in the school, and describe specifically what you
have gained from these observations – what you saw that you
would/wouldn’t like to use in your own teaching.

 Draw a brief action plan concerning your further development as a teacher.
