‘The following classification of hill roads are prevalent as per Indian Roads
Congress Standard Codes.
(i) National Highway NH
(ii) State Highway SH
ii) Major District Road MDR
(iv) Other District Road
(«) Village Road VR
“The classifications depend mostly on the under noted considerations =
(i) National Highways are the roads which connect interstate places
of importance including State Capitals and are numbered as such on all
India basis.
Gi) State Highways are the roads connecting Inter Distriet Places in
the same State and adjoining towne of horder districts of adjoining State.
(iii) Major district roads are the roads connecting Tehsil towns of
districts.
(iv) Other places within the district are connected by ODRs taking off
from NH, SH, MDRs.
(e) Village roads are talking off from NH, SH, MDRs, ODRs and these
connect villages,
In the case of hills also, all the above categories of roads are applicable
excepi that mere are two additional categories called ‘Bridle Road’ and Light
Vehicle Road (LVR) which serve villages and habitations in the remote,TREATISE
