MAINTENANCE ORGANIZATION (NEEDED SYSTEMS)

A System is a combination of components that include:

1. POLICY

2. FINANCING

3. MANPOWER

4. TRAINING

5. HOUSING

6. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

7. MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES

8. CONTROL
The subject of safety consciousness for this year's Aviation cannot be over emphasized. Among the basic
urges, drives, motivations and instincts of man, the urge to be safe and secure is the strongest. It is no
wonder, therefore, that in everything we do or plan to do, we strive for security, more so among people
who are aware that there are certain risks involved in their undertaking.

For instance, one probable question that a person who belong to the aircraft industries would ask is:
Could there be ways by winch the airworthiness of this aircraft can be assured? This is an absolutely
healthy attitude and indicates the natural concern that each one of us have for our undertaking.

Our subject here, is to stress the importance of quality control as one of the answers to this question. A
quality control system that encompassed all the necessary elements can surely assure product
acceptability in all aspects. However, the implications of an effective quality control system are far
complex and expansive and not quite as simple as we may think. The range is so broad that it covers an
area form the very simple ocular inspection to the use of various quality control tools such as quality
assurance, reliability engineering, statistical quality control and various advanced special processes
necessitated by the advance of bigger and more sophisticated aircraft. A Quality Control System,
however, is a flexible system that can be tailored to suit the individual needs of an organization while at
the same time maintaining its basic elements. Considerable studies and researches have established
that the causes of malfunctions are very much the same as the causes of sub-standard products.
Therefore, if we identify the causes of malfunctions, we can take precise steps towards improving the
product. Quality Control as it were is both a science and art because we must know that it is and how we
can accomplished it.

The word quality mean different things to different people, the same is true with the meaning of
“Quality Control”:

Definitions of Quality Control

It is an effective system for coordinating the quality maintenance and quality improvement efforts of the
various groups in an organization so as to attain production at the most economical levels and in
accordance with established requirements and standards.

It is also defined as a means of promptly detecting and correcting existing conditions which adversely
affect the materials or products throughout all phases of operations.

In the phrase Quality Control, the word quality does not have the popular meaning or "best" in an
absolute sense. It means "best" for conditions of actual use and cost involved.

The word control represents a management tool for setting quality standards, appraising conformance
to these standards, and planning for improvements in the standards.

These definitions prescribe exactly how we should go about in providing necessary safeguards to ensure
the efficiency of the product, which is a safe and irworthy aircraft.

First and foremost, therefore, is the development of a Quality Control System, whose objectives should
be:

1. the development of a Quality Control System Shall result in the production of acceptable quality
products at minimum quality costs: and
2. the maintenance of the system in such a manner as to make it current and responsive to the needs of
the industry.
