( as per New pattern )

PART-A- ( Section-II )
Case study-based questions are compulsory. Attempt any 4 sub parts from each question. Each Mks
question carries 1 mark

A survey of 2184 television viewers of a town found that 1328 of them watch at least one sport.
The types of sport they watch are shown in the graph given.

H- hockey
C- cricket
F- Football
B- basketball

The Three Measures of Central Tendency

The Mean is often referred to as the ‘Average’. Mean is best used for a data set with numbers
that does not have an ‘outlier’. An outlier is a data value that is much higher or lower than the
other data values in the set. In statistics, an outlier is a data point that differs significantly from
other observations.

Median, in statistics, is the middle value of the given list of data, when arranged in ascending or
descending order.Median is best used to describe the middle of a set of data that does have an
outlier.

The Mode is the data that occurs the most times. It is possible for a set of data to have no mode,
one mode or more than one mode. Mode is best used when the data are non-numeric or when
choosing the most popular item.

(a)
Which measures of central tendency best describes the below given data? Why?

i) Mode ; half of the employees make this amount.

(ii) Median ; the mean is still larger than 8 of 10 wages.
(iii) Mean ; none of the hourly wages are outliers.
(iv) None of the measures describes the data best.

(iii) Mean = Mode = Median
(iv) Mean < Mode < Median 1
