BRUXELLES

ULB
ULB was founded in 1834, just four years
after Belgium's independence. Today
there are over 35 000, 30% coming from
abroad. With twelve faculties, two
schools, and one institute, ULB covers all
disciplines and all academic levels.
Initially based solely in Brussels, ULB has
extended its activities to Wallonia has
extended to Wallonia and now has a
network of research centers, hospitals,
and libraries, all with cutting-edge
equipment.

 TRANSPORT & DIRECTIONS
Arriving in Brussels
By plane
from brussels airport (bru)
Train : several trains an hour connect the
airport to Brussels' main railway stations
(Bruxelles-Nord, Bruxelles-Centrale,
Bruxelles-Midi). A journey takes about 20
to 30 min. Tickets can be purchased in the
train station located at level -1 in the
airport.

Bus : STIB line 12 will take you to place du
Luxembourg in about 45 min. A "Go2city"
one-way ticket costs €7 and is available on
MOBIB card, through contactless payment
on the bus or on a paper ticket at vending
machines.

Taxi : taxis can be found outside the arrival
hall. A journey costs around 45€ (daytime).
from Charleroi airport (crl)
Bus: the Flibco Shuttle is the easiest way to
travel to Brussels from Charleroi airport. It
starts running at 3.30am. There is a bus
every 30 minutes. You can buy your ticket
online in advance. This shuttle will take you
to the Bruxelles-Midi railway station.

By bus
International bus lines connect Brussels to
major European cities like Paris, Amsterdam
or Cologne. You will most likely arrive at one
of Brussels' main railway stations (Bruxelles-
Midi or Bruxelles-Nord). From there, you can
reach the campus by public transportation.
By train
Travelling from any of the major neighbouring
cities - like Amsterdam or Paris - is easy, as
there are trains running to/from these
countries up to 16 times a day. Eurostar and
Thalys services will also take you from
selected parts of France and from London,
while of course there are national train
services to take you from any other part of
Belgium right into the centre. You will most
likely arrive at one of Brussels' main railway
stations (Bruxelles-Midi or Bruxelles-Nord).
From there, you can reach the campus by
public transportation.

By car
ULB - Flagey can be reached by motorways
E411 (Namur), E42 (Liège), E19 (Paris-Mons),
and E40 (Ostend), then directions Place
Flagey. There are has several car parks in the
area. Park & Ride locations let you park
outside Brussels and use public
transportation to reach the campus.
TRANSPORT & DIRECTIONS
Getting around Brussels
By foot
Brussels is a very walkable city and
strolling around is the best way to
enjoy its architecture, parks, and famous
comic walls.
By public transport
STIB runs a dense network of metro, tram
and bus lines with a unified ticketing
system. You can buy single fare tickets in
the stations, at the vending machines or
through contactless payment on the
tram/bus. Single fare tickets are valid for
one journey with connections within 60
minutes after validation. You can also
buy a Mobib Basic Card (5€) and load it
with multiple journeys. Mobib Basic
Cards can be purchased from the red GO
vending machines in the stations and at
the main tram/bus stops.

By taxi
Brussels taxis are black with a black and
yellow checkered band with 2 Irises
symbolising the Brussels-Capital Region on
their 4 doors.

By bike
Brussels has a self-service bike sharing
scheme called Villo!. You can rent a bike for
a day, a week or longer.

Directions to ulb - flagey
The Faculty of Architecture is located Place
Flagey 19, 1050 Brussels. It is accessible by
public transportation: bus lines 38, 59, 60
and 71 (stop at "Flagey"). Bus line 95 stops at
‘Germoir’ on Avenue de la Couronne, just a
short walk from ULB-Flagey, while tram lines
8 and 93 stop at ‘Bailli’ on Avenue Louise.

The summer school will be organised at the Faculty of Architecture La Cambre Horta
located Place Flagey 19, 1050 Brussels.

Green spaces
Looking for some green space where to
relax after an intensive day? Check this

Belgium has three official languages,
Dutch, French and German. Brussels has
two official languages, Dutch and French,
but it is mostly French-speaking.
Brussels in an international city and
English is also widely spoken.

Time zone
Brussels is located in the Central Europe
Time zone (GMT+2).
Voltage
In Belgium, the standard voltage is 230 V
and the frequency is 50 Hz. Power plugs
and sockets are of type E. Please be
aware that you might need an adaptor

Weather
Summer in Brussels can be described as
mild with temperatures ranging between
15°C (59°F) and 26°C (78°F). Summer rain
is not rare, consider bringing an
umbrella or a light raincoat. Occasional
