STUDIO RESEARCH IN VISUAL ART (EBS426SW)

With my knowledge in visual arts, I want to produce an artwork which
will cater for road accidents at Appiadu community. Road accidents is at
ascendancy in my community due to the untilled road. So, as an artist, I
want to produce a road sign to educate road users and also create the
awareness of road accidents.

Road signs are signs created at the side or above roads to give
instructions or provide information to road users. The road signs will
educate drivers on over speeding and over taking. Road signs will also
protect the life of animals, trees, properties and human lives at large.
They represent rules that are in place to keep you safe and help
communicate message to drivers and pedestrians that can maintain order
and reduce accidents. Road signs give direction of movement, to warn
you to anticipate something up ahead.

In view of this, the following road signs will be developed to cater for
the problem of road accidents in my community. Sign post will be
developed to depict maximum at 30, cautioning speed bump ahead,
pedestrians crossing ahead to educate the general public and the drivers
and how to use the road safely to avoid road accidents.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Road accident is at ascendancy in my community Appiadu due to the

untilled road. Therefore, I am creating a road sign which will
communicate the road signs to the users of the road.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

The project is to educate road users in my community about road signs

and also reduce road accident.

PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

The purpose of the artwork is to promote road safety and providing

orderly movement of all road users on the road. Road signs notify road
users of the regulations and providing warning and guidance needed for
safe, uniform and efficient operation.

METHODS, PROCEDURE AND TECHNIQUES.

The artistic method used in executing the work are stencil, priming and
painting. Stencil is a sheet card, paper, plastic or metal in which letters,
numbers and designs have been cut with the aim of transferring the
design onto another surface. The painting will be done by placing the
stencil on the plywood and paint is rubbed over the cutout designs using
the plywood as a support for the sign board, am now going to use stencil
method to produce or design the work. The tools and materials to be
used are; pencil, ruler, eraser, cardboard, cutter knife, plywood and
paint.

The preparation of the stencil is all about using a card or paper. The
following are the steps for making my stenciling work.

·Brainstorm my stencil idea.

·Create the design on a paper.

· Print the design or motive.

·Cut the stencil free from the paper.

·Position my abstract.

·Make the stencil placement with painter‫׳‬s tape.

·Place the stencil on the surface.

·Paint the motive on the stencil·

·Wait for the paint to dry completely.

·Remove the stencil and add another coat.

·Add finishing touches with a paint brush.

·Dry finishing touches
