13 cm. Given that the slant height of the pyramid is 10 h

cm, find the total surface area of the pyramid.

Solution: The distance from the vertex to the

cubic block of side length 15 cm, a hole in the shape of a cone is to be bored into such that the
vertex of the cone just touches the opposite face of the block. Given that the diameter of the
base of the cone is 16 cm, find the total surface area of the object. Leave your answer in terms
of π.

Solution: When the block is not BORED, the total surface area is 6 × 152 .
The curved surface area of the cone is
p
π×R×`=π×8× 152 + 82 = π × 8 × 17.

Hence, the total surface area of the resulting solid figure is

6 × 152 − π × 82 + π × 8 × 17 = 1350 + 136π.
