Lab Report #10

For the final week, my group was decided to do:

1. Tres Leches cupcake with berries - the main ingredients to make the cupcakes are

all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, egg, sugar, salted butter, buttermilk, and

vanilla extract. Tres leches mean three kinds of milk; hence we used heavy cream,

condensed milk, and evaporated milk. First, the oven needs to preheat before starting.

Then, my group combined the dry ingredients and set them aside; meanwhile, they

melted the salted butter. Later, combine the sugar, buttermilk, sugar, vanilla extract, and

dry ingredients. After combining them well, distribute the batter into the cupcake pan and

bake them for 15-17 minutes. My group cared about the cupcakes; meanwhile, I worked

as the floater. After it was baked and completely cool, my group used skewers to poke

holes in the cupcakes and pour in the milk mixtures to let them soak to absorb the flavors.

Put the whipped cream on top of the cupcakes and use the berries to decorate them.

Lastly, refrigerate the cupcakes until it’s ready to serve.

The result looked appetizing and bright, but the flavor was not as expected. In my

opinion, it was milky and sweet, but the taste of flour was so strong, and the berries

helped to balance the sweetness.

The other groups prepared the following dishes:

2. Group 3: Churro with chocolate dipping sauce - The deep-fried golden churros are coated

with some spices and served with the chocolate dipping sauce. It was crispy and thin, but

I think the taste of the spices was too strong, which I don’t like much.

3. Group 4: Baklava - This is a classic Greek dessert found in restaurants. The looking was

golden and glazed, but it tasted a strong spice, nutty, and flaky. In my opinion, it was not

my favorite, but group 4 made a tremendous effort to complete this dessert, and I truly

appreciate them.

4. Group 1: Creme Brulee - This is a classic French dessert that has gained wide popularity.

The baked custard has a slight vanilla taste and is milky, and the caramelized brown sugar

has a slightly bitter taste that balance the sweetness. The final result was slightly sweet,

smooth, and soft.

Thank you to the professor and my classmates throughout the semester; I have learned

about different cultures of cuisines and how to cook together with people in the kitchen. My

favorite dish of the desserts was the creme brulee because the appearance was attractive and

delicious.
