Instruction Manual
Preface

Overview
This manual describes the application and user interface of the ACSELERATOR
Bay Screen Builder SEL-5036 Software. This manual is organized as follows:
Preface. Provides the manual overview, as well as safety and general informa-
tion about the product.
Section 1: Getting Started. Includes information on installing Bay Screen
Builder as well as information about new project creation, layout of the
application, symbol management, formatting tools, application settings,
project settings, and troubleshooting tools.
Section 2: Bay Screen Builder Design Symbols. Includes information about the
available ANSI type and IEC type symbols. This section describes all the
available ANSI type symbols and IEC type symbols. The descriptions
each include a graphical representation of the symbol followed by proper-
ties associated with the symbol. Within a symbol category, if two or more
symbols share an identical property set, the associated properties are
described only once. For example, within the ANSI Type Breaker Sym-
bols category, Breaker and Truck Breaker share an identical property set,
so their associated properties are described once.
Section 3: Job Done Examples. Describes common interactions between Bay
Screen Builder and ACSELERATOR QuickSet SEL-5030 Software. The
examples all include a step-by-step procedure for accomplishing the task.
In all the examples, the interaction originates in QuickSet.

Bay Screen Builder Design Symbols

Overview
This section describes all the available ANSI type symbols and IEC type sym-
bols. Not all symbols are available on all products. The descriptions each include
a graphical representation of the symbol followed by properties associated with
the symbol. Within a symbol category, if two or more symbols share an identical
property set, the associated properties are described only once. For example,
within the ANSI Type Breaker Symbols category, Breaker and Truck Breaker
share an identical property set, so their associated properties are described once.

ANSI Type Breaker Symbols

Use the SEL settings software for the specific SEL device to set whether these
symbols can be controlled by the user from the device touchscreen display. The
ANSI type breaker symbols available in the ACSELERATOR Bay Screen Builder
SEL-5036 Software are listed as follows.

Cybersecurity Features
The ACSELERATOR Bay Screen Builder SEL-5036 Software has a number of
security features to assist users with meeting their cybersecurity design
requirements.

Ports and Services

Bay Screen Builder does not open any network ports or services.

Access Controls
Bay Screen Builder does not perform any password, account, or certificate man-
agement.

Logging Features
Bay Screen Builder logs only software-specific diagnostic information to a file.

Internal Log Storage

Bay Screen Builder stores the diagnostic log information internally. The default
location for the Bay Screen Builder log file is C:\ProgramFiles\SEL\AcSELera-
tor\BayscreenBuilder\Customer\Logs. The only limitation to the log size is the
free space available on the hard disk drive of the machine on which Bay Screen
Builder is installed. If this disk is full, Bay Screen Builder does not write to the
log file.

Backup and Restore

Bay Screen Builder settings are stored on the hard disk on the machine on which
the software is installed through use of a binary file that can only be modified
inside Bay Screen Builder. The software supports no export or import of the set-
tings file, but you can back up this file (AppSettings.bin) for future restoration as
necessary. Should there be any deletion of the file, Bay Screen Builder regener-
ates it with default values.

Adding the United States-International Keyboard Layout in Windows 7

Operating System
This section provides detailed information about how to add the United States-
International Keyboard layout in the Windows 7 operating system. The United
States-International Keyboard layout creates international characters by allowing
you to add an accent mark to a character. It also assigns new functions to the
<Alt> key located on the right side of the keyboard. Because of this reassignment

Creating Accented Characters Using the US-International Keyboard

Layout
You can use the following keys with the US-International keyboard layout to
create accented characters: apostrophe ('), quotation mark ("), accent grave (`),
tilde (~), and caret (^). The behavior of these keys is modified as follows:
➤ Nothing displays on the screen until you press a second key.
➤ After use of one of the previously mentioned keys, keyboard
behavior is as follows:
➢ If you press one of the letters designated as eligible to receive an
accent mark, the accented version of the letter appears.
➢ If you press one of the letters not eligible to receive an accent mark,
two separate characters appear.
➢ If you press the spacebar, the symbol displays by itself.

Table C.2 provides a list of accented characters you can create through use of the
US-International keyboard layout.

Touchscreen Display: Options for Languages Not Supported Natively

This section provides information about how to use natively unsupported
languages in Bay Screen Builder projects so that they can be displayed on the
touchscreen display of SEL devices.
As following text describes, characters for natively unsupported languages can be
displayed by converting characters and phrases to image files.
➤ The source image can be in any format Bay Screen Builder supports,
but because the image format impacts the quality of its rendering on
the touchscreen display, it is best to use only BMP or PNG images.
➤ For an image to be transparent, it must be in PNG format. Bay Screen
Builder currently fully supports transparency on all true color PNG
images.

Introduction

➤ The size (width-by-height pixel dimensions) of the image dictates its

rendering speed on the touchscreen display. When compared with
smaller images, larger images can take longer to render on the
touchscreen display.
➤ Although the Bay Screen Builder permits manipulation of image size
(width-by-height pixel dimensions) and the touchscreen display is
designed to respond accordingly, changes in size can sometimes lead
to distortion of images. Use the recommendations in Table C.3 to
create image files that do not require manipulation in Bay Screen
Builder.
➤ To obtain an idea of scale in your graphics utility, create an image
with pixel dimensions that match the pixel size of the SEL device
with which you are working. Navigate to Settings > Project Settings
in Bay Screen Builder to determine the pixel size of the SEL device
with which you are working.
➤ Table C.3 provides a comparison between the font size of text typed
natively in Bay Screen Builder and the font size in Microsoft Paint, a
simple graphics utility included with all Microsoft Windows
versions. Use the information this table provides only as a guideline
and starting point. It is possible that you may have to fine-tune the
font size for the language and graphics utility with which you are
working to suit your application.
