REPRODUCTION IN FLOWERING PLANTS
TOPIC: GLOSSARY
1. Flowering plants Plants that are able to bear flowers.
2. Flowers The parts of a flowering plant that help the plant to reproduce.
3. Fruit The part of a flowering plant that develops from the ovary after
fertilization. It contains seeds.
4. Fertilization The fusion of a male reproductive cell with a female reproductive cell to
form a fertilized egg.
5. Germination The development of seeds into young plants.
6. Pollination The transfer of pollen grains from the anther to the stigma of a flower.
7. Reproduce To have young ones or offspring.
8. Seed dispersal The scattering of seeds from the parent plant.
9. Ovum An egg or a female reproductive cell.
10. Ovary The female part of a flower which contains ovules.
11. Ovule It is found in the ovary of a flower and contains a female reproductive
cell called an egg or ovum.

12. Petals The parts of a flower that usually have bright colors.
13. Pistil The female part of a flower that consists of the stigma, style and ovary.

15. Pollen grains The parts in a flower that contain the male reproductive cells.
16. Stamen The male part of a flower that consists of the anther ad filament.
17. Style A part of the pistil of a flower. It is a long stalk which holds up the
stigma.
18. Stigma A part of the pistil of a flower. It is found on the tip of the style.

1.Light The form of energy that enables us to see.


2. Light A bright place has a higher light intensity than a dim place. It is measured
intensity using a light meter or a light sensor in the unit lux.

4. Light sources Objects that give off light. Examples are the sun and a flashlight
5. Reflect The process of light bouncing off a surface.
6. Beam A bundle of light rays.

totally or partially blocked.
