Resting Under the Mango Tree is an oil on

canvas painting (1995) by Fernando Amorsolo that depicts an

intimate scene away from the work of harvesting in the field.
A brief reprieve from the heat and activity of the day,
Amorsolo captures a warm scene that highlights the
relationship between family, work, and community. With a
strong desire to celebrate and elevate the status of the family
as the basis for Filipino values, Amorsolo painted numerous
works with a traditional nuclear at its core. The
complementary colors of the mother’s yellow scarf and her
ochre dress are the key source of warmth for the scene, and
Amorsolo achieves capturing her maternal love and the
familial bond in the endearing scene.

The subject of this art piece is the farmers who have

been working under the sun, the carabao, the villagers and
the loving family that are resting under the mango tree in
which that symbolizes the Nature and People as the sources.
Obviously, there are many people in the painting and the
nature, which is the farm, the tree, the light of the sun and
the clear blue skies that makes the painting very artistic,
warm and pleasing to the eye.

This kind of artwork used Naturalism in which the

artist uses natural colors, shadows and light and showing
humans as it really appears in life which portrays the work of
the farmers. As it also shows a true-to-lifestyle that involves
representation of natures and the people. The artist used this
kind of artwork to represent the soul of the Filipino’s
especially the traditional culture, values, and the history.
