GEOLOGICAL SETUP
LOCATION Chennai binny mills site
The terrain is flat. The site has clayey soil composistion. In clayey soils and hard rocks
the water percollates very slowly but held inside for a really long time.

SWOT ANALYSIS
The methodology is accessed from both neighbourhood level and city level.

Strengths
The area surrounded by residential units opens oppurtunities for students in vicinity.
Good public transport connectivity is present. Surrounding areas have permeable
street networks and a sense of organized community. Distinct landlocks with
various landmarks has bred a strong image for the area.

Weakness
The railway edge conditions may be a drawback. There are no major economic
drivers that could have acted as magnet for the site and there is no chances for any
other higher education near the site. Being a vast site, the facilities with in and other
external future nearby buildings may overshadow the project.

Opportunities
Perambur being at heart of chennai makes the site proximal for users from all portions
of the city to reach. The area of historical significance with old and new fabric that is
still maintained provides a timeless ground to build an iconic facility of national
importance. There is large possibilities for infill development that the project may
pave way to. The exodus lack of employment in the area could be reversed by the
facility.

Threats
A central government facility being built here would amp up the traffic generations
and congestion. Though the nearby mall being a socio economic place to some level,
it negates the need for quality public spaces around and near the site for the user
to experience.

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK (Narrative)
The thought was that the campus is not just a space of utilitarian facility sets but a
place that facilitates learning that is both tacit and exchanging kind.

The goal is to create a built environment that creates dialogues between space and Spatial dialogues + Pauses
objects. The architecture intends to celebrate the collective learning by the presence of
myriad spaces for chance encounters that allow for ‘dwell time’- a slowing
down of onself to vistas, impromptu interactions, inflections and pause senses.

Redefining these senses into spatial framework through meddling to diffuse thresholds.
Acloves, space pockets etc to name a few architectural assemblages for these diffusions
creating a environment that bolsters the spatial culture of a INSTITUTION.

DIMENSIONAL FRAMEWORK
The spatial framework is planned to be rooted in form evolution and topographic
plays. A lattice network could be created that operates on incrementing and modular
compositions leading to create spaces for period n (morphing with time). This follows
the guides for creating dialogues in space where they can be modelled spatially in the
grid formed.

Placemaking through embracing the here and thereness of the matrix

that gets modelled and could also be added upon over time
