 As you may already know,


adverbs are one of the eight
different parts of speech there
are in English. Today, we’ll
focus on adverbs of degree.

Fall Weather: Adverbs of Degree


Adverbs of degree tell us the strength or intensity of something that
happens.
-How much…? Or How little…?
• They go before the adjective.
• It’s very cold in Maine at this time of the year. (very cold = there is a high level
of cold)
• They answer the question how…?
• How rainy is it? It’s pretty rainy.
• We can use “not” with very.
• It’s not vey windy in Texas.
• We can’t use not with a little, pretty, and extremely in this way.
• It’s not a little hot in Madrid.
• (When you use not with quite the meaning is different.)
