The story of the Hmong people is fascinating. Having each other's back is a significant
aspect of every family. The Hmong people, especially the Yang family, always have such a
strong sense of community in this war where people have other's back. The belongingness and
family attachment are summarized and shown in the quote that I found the most important.
"Even as food became scarcer in our village, the number of people around our table grew"
(Yang 73). it made me view the Hmong people as a community with a feeling of collectivism
who care about the group's wellbeing over their own. As I continued to read, I realized the
creativity owned by Yang as he incorporates emotions to make the scene lively. I laid my
interest on the story of Chue and Bee, which goes in line with the theme discussed in my
earlier sentence. Despite opposition received from their parents on their marriage, they
successfully made life even through the most challenging events of the war. By including

Another emotional story is that of Shong. The amount of sacrifice and value Shong
places on his family is impressive. The act of stopping fleeing from the enemy just for his son
to live despite being aware of the consequences requires a man of different mettle. He faced
traumatic experiences that disconnected him from his family even though the family found

style. The reader makes a clear understanding of the amount of love and profound relationship
between Yang's parents. I was surprised by Yang's mother's miscarriages, and I had no idea
