BARANGAY BADTASAN

Barangay Badtasan is located on the

southwestern portion of the municipality.
It is generally characterized both by a flat
and a mountainous topography. There
are several puroks in the barangay that
are established on landslide depositional
area. These puroks include Purok Pag-
asa I, Purok Pag-asa II and Purok
Panding. Since these puroks are located
on an area classified as landslide
deposition zone, they are becoming
vulnerable and are atrisk of being
affected by future landslides that may
occur within the vicinity.

The barangay is being traversed by
several rivers/creeks. Portions of Pag-asa
I, II and III which are situated proximal to
Badtasan River are susceptible to
moderate to high flooding. Moreover,
Purok Maligaya is often affected by the
combined effects of high tide and
overflows of Badtasan River. Also, high
flooding may be experienced in Purok
Riverside especially along the floodplain
of Tual River based from the actual
assessment. Suawag Creek, traversing
Purok Pag-asa II ay potentially affect
portions of the purok.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
• Prohibition of additional settlements along or near flood susceptible areas especially proximal to Badtasan
River, Tual River and Suawag Creek is highly recommended.
• Installation of riverbank protection/ engineering measures for actively eroding banks of Badtasan River, and
Tual River.
• Residents should also observed for saturated ground and/or displaced road surfaces and report to the
BDRRMC/LDRRMC/MGB.
• Install signages on actively eroding ground/areas.
• Extra vigilance should be practiced by residents during events of heavy rainfall due to the possible occurrence
of landslide.
• Awareness campaigns to the residents should be conducted. Community-based landslide early warning and
evacuation protocol should be established by activating the BDRRMC.
• Community-based landslide early warning and evacuation protocol should be established by activating the
Barangay DRRM Council.
• Coordination of the barangay with the municipal government should be strengthened.
• Awareness and preparedness should be practiced at all times.

BARANGAY DATU DANI

Barangay Datu Dani is of the coastal

barangays of the municipality with
portions that are characterized by
mountainous terrain. Based on the actual
assessment, among the puroks in the
barangay, only Purok Palayday, Purok
Palya and Purok Sog are pontential of
being affected by mass movement since
there are portions on these puroks that
are characterized by moderately sloping
terrain.

In terms of flooding, there are puroks in

the barangay which are often affected by
the overflowing of Kling River especially
during successive rainfall. Flood affected
puroks include Purok Kaunlaran, Purok
Sog, and Purok Mabuhay. Inundation of
surface waters in Purok Mabuhay may
last a maximum of one (1) day. High
flooding on the mouth of Kling River in
Purok Mabuhay was also noted during
the survey. Moreover, waters for the
mountains could potentially affect a
portion of Purok Sog (flashflood).
Portions of Purok Lorenzana, proximal to
Tual River may also be affected by flood
during heavy rainfall.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Prohibition of additional settlements along or near flood susceptible areas especially proximal to Tual River, Kling River and
unnamed creeks is recommended.
• Prohibition of additional settlements in areas identified to be landslide prone areas should be considered.
• Municipal and barangay authorities should be more aware and monitor the rapid increase of floodwater level and turbidity
(soil content and other debris materials) from the Tual River as this may indicate an impending flashfloods.
• Installation of rivrerbank protection/ engineering measures on actively eroding banks of Tual River and Kling River should
be considered
• Residents should also observed for saturated ground and/or displaced road surfaces and report to the
BDRRMC/LDRRMC/MGB.
• Install signages on actively eroding ground/area.
• Extra vigilance should be practiced by residents during events of heavy rainfall due to the possible occurrence of landslide.
• Awareness campaigns to the residents should be conducted. Community-based landslide early warning and evacuation
protocol should be established by activating the BDRRMC.
• Coordination of the barangay with the municipal government should be strengthened.
• Awareness and preparedness should be practiced at all times.

BARANGAY GASI
Barangay Gasi is characterized by an infill valley
as a result by the dissection of Kling River, and is
surrounded by rugged topography where landslide
susceptible areas are mostly found.

Recent landslide occurrences were noted along

the barangay road going to Sitio Kapanal. These
landslides occurred on very steep slopes and
manifested as debris slides.

Flood hazards, flash floods in particular, are very

common in the barangay. Kling River is the most
prominent flood source which virtually affects all
low-lying areas of the barangay.

In Sitio Kapanal, majority of the human

settlements are situated on areas identified as a
river terrace of Kling River, as indicated by the
exposed subrounded to well-rounded boulder-
sized rocks that are usually transported and
produced by fluvial (river) processes. These areas
are identified as moderately to highly susceptible
to flooding. Therefore, considering also the
anecdotal accounts by the locals, these areas are
classified as moderately to highly susceptible to
flooding.

Furthermore, local creeks such as Lao Creek

(affects Purok Lao), Tangkuhan Creek and Salvan
Creek (both affects areas of Purok Salvan), and
Kawayan Creek (affects Purok Kawayan), all of
which are tributaries of Kling River, are also
notable flood sources.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Immediate relocation of human settlements in Puroks Lao, Salvan, Lehek, Kawayan, Kapanal (near Kling River), and Purok
Macao (near Kling River).
• Prohibition of human settlements along low-lying areas near Kling River, Lao Creek, Tangkuhan Creek, Salvan Creek, and
other unnamed local creeks and rivers.
• Pre-emptive evacuation of settlers near Kling River, Lao Creek, Tangkuhan Creek, Salvan Creek, and other unnamed local
creeks and rivers, especially during incessant heavy rains within the barangay or on the upstream areas of Kling River;
• Prohibition of human settlements along steep to very steep sloping terrain;
• Installation of early warning devices (e.g. signage) on areas that are susceptible to flooding and landslide;
• Activation of BDRRMC is highly recommended;
• Observe for and monitor the presence of ground cracks and report to MDRRMC or MGB;
• Awareness and preparedness should be practiced at all times.

BARANGAY KAPATE

Barangay Kapate is characterized by rugged to

mountainous topography from the central portion
of the barangay running towards the north while
flat to gentle topography is observed on the
southern portion.

Landslide hazards are usually found on the

central and northern portion of the barangay where
areas with rugged to mountainous terrain are
found.

In terms of flooding, low-lying areas near

Kuluwang/Kapate River such as Puroks Mustives,
Caballero and some portions of Purok Mabuhay
are usually affected. Severino T. Inong Elementary
School is located near the immediate riverbanks of
Kuluwang/Kapate River thereby subject to flooding
and riverbank erosion.

Furthermore, low-lying areas of Purok Magkaisa

near Bo-e River is identified as moderately to
highly susceptible to flooding.

Also, Purok Tiboli 1 is also subject to flooding due

to its relatively flat terrain and proximity to Tambilil
River.

Erosion is evident along the banks of

Kuluwang/Kapate, Tambilil, and Bo-e Rivers.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Immediate relocation of human settlements especially in Puroks Tiboli 1 (near Tambilil River) and Maligaya (near Tambilil
River and along the shoreline).
• Prohibition of human settlements along low-lying areas near Kuluwang/Kapate River, Tambilil River, and Bo-e River.
• Pre-emptive evacuation of settlers near Kuluwang/Kapate River, Tambilil River, Bo-e River, and other unnamed local creeks
and rivers, especially during incessant heavy rains within the barangay or on the upstream areas of the said rivers.
• Prohibition of human settlements along steep to very steep sloping terrain;
• Installation of early warning devices (e.g. signage) on areas that are susceptible to flooding and landslide;
• Activation of BDRRMC is highly recommended;
• Observe for and monitor the presence of ground cracks and report to MDRRMC or MGB;
• Awareness and preparedness should be practiced at all times.

BARANGAY KATUBAO
Barangay Katubao is characterized by relatively
flat to gentle topography on the southern portion
while rugged to mountainous topography is
observed running towards the north.

All puroks lie on relatively flat to gentle terrain

making it unlikely to be affected by landslides.
However, areas on the central and northern
portion of the barangay bounded by steep to very
steep sloping terrain are identified to be
susceptible to landslide.

Flood susceptible areas are mostly identified within

the areas of Puroks 1-A, Purok 4 (Lanao), Purok 5
(Lower Maglangit), Purok 6 (Lower Maglangit.

Primary flood sources emanate from Taluk River

(affecting Purok 1-A), Kitagas River (affecting
Purok 6 -Lower Kitagas and Purok 7-Nama) and
Maglangit Creek (affecting Puroks 4- Lanao) and
5-Lower Maglangit)

RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Immediate relocation of human settlements especially in Puroks 1-A (near Taluk River), Purok 7 (near Kitagas River), Purok
6- Lower Kitagas(near Kitagas River),Purok 4-Lanao and Purok 5-Lower Maglangit (those near Maglangit Creek and along
the coast).
• Prohibition of human settlements along near Taluk River, Kitagas River, Maglangit Creek, and near the shoreline.
• Pre-emptive evacuation of settlers near Taluk River, Kitagas River, Maglangit Creek, and other unnamed local creeks and
rivers, especially during incessant heavy rains within the barangay or on the upstream areas of the said rivers.
• Prohibition of human settlements along steep to very steep sloping terrain;
• Installation of early warning devices (e.g. signage) on areas that are susceptible to flooding and landslide;
• Activation of BDRRMC is highly recommended;
• Observe for and monitor the presence of ground cracks and report to MDRRMC or MGB;
• Awareness and preparedness should be practiced at all times.

BARANGAY KAYUPO

The barangay, with most of its purok centers, is

generally low susceptible to both landslide and
flood.

Its northern-northeastern and southern portion is

characterized by high relief areas that are
identified as moderately to highly susceptible to
landslide. Landslide prone area is observed at the
back of an elementary school in Purok 6, where
existing building are built near a steep slope.
Possibility of mass movement brought by heavy
rainfall (or any chronic events that may pass the
area) and/or strong earthquake event. In terms of
flooding, overflowing of nearby creeks, impacts of
strong waves (storm surges), absence of drainage
system in the barangay and high surface run-offs
coming from nearby elevated areas, usually lead
to flooding in some portion of the barangay.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Avoid/prohibit establishment of settlements on areas identified as geohazard prone areas.

• Installation of landslide mitigating structures should be considered at the back of D. Gimarino ES, where a slope is
observed.
• Setbacks (easements/buffer zones) should be implemented on areas with steep slopes and active channels.
• Improvement of existing drainage system in the barangay should be considered.
• Installation of effective and efficient drainage canals in areas affected by high surface run-offs should be considered.
• Evacuation protocol, information and its dissemination should be made known to residents living in geohazard prone areas.
• Preparedness and awareness should be practiced at all times.

BARANGAY KLING

Barangay Kling is located on the southern portion

of the municipality. It is a coastal barangay and is
established generally on a flat terrain which makes
it less likely affected by landslide.

Several small creeks are found in the barangay.

These prominent channels can contribute to high
surface runoffs of connected Maligang River,
meaning higher surface run offs, the higher the
possibility of flash occurrence along the channel
that can further affect nearby and low lying areas.
Moreover, severe flooding is observed along
creek/river mouth. In addition to that, due to lack of
proper drainage canals in some puroks, localized
flooding can also be experienced within the area.
In 2011, the combined effects of water gushing
from the mountains as well as high tide has
significantly affected the, Purok 5, including their
barangay hall by flood.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Prohibition of additional settlements along or near flood susceptible areas especially proximal to Maligang River and other
unnamed creeks is recommended.
• Installation of riverbank protection/ engineering measures for actively eroding banks of Maligang River.
• Residents should also observed for saturated ground and/or displaced road surfaces and report to the
BDRRMC/LDRRMC/MGB.
• Install signages on actively eroding ground/areas.

BARANGAY LAGUNDI

Barangay Lagundi is a coastal barangay which is

located on the southern portion of the municipality
of Kiamba. Generally, it is situated on a flat terrain
which makes it less likely to be affected by any
mass movement.

Small creeks are found in the barangay. These

small creeks are the main sources of high flow
discharge from the heavy and continuous rainfall,
which later feed these water run offs to the main
river such as the Kling River. Purok 6 and 7 are
ususally being inundates by the said river. Also,
nearby areas to the creeks and Kling River are
identified to be flashflood prone areas.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Prohibition of additional settlements along or near flood susceptible areas especially proximal to Kling River and unnamed
creeks is recommended.
• Installation of riverbank protection/ engineering measures for actively eroding banks of Kling River.
• Residents should also observed for saturated ground and/or displaced road surfaces and report to the
BDRRMC/LDRRMC/MGB.
• Extra vigilance should be practiced by residents during events of heavy rainfall due to the possible occurrence of landslide.
• Coordination of the barangay with the municipal government should be strengthened.
• Awareness and preparedness should be practiced at all times.

BARANGAY LEBE

Barangay Lebe is a coastal barangay and is the

smallest barangay in terms of land area in the
municipality. It is composed of three (3) puroks
which are generally established on a flat terrain
which makes them less likely to be affected by
landslide. However, Purok Mirasol, which is
situated at the footslope of a mountainous area
with numerous identified landslide scarps is
susceptible to landslide.

Localized flooding is one of the main problems in

the barangay especially in Purok Calical. Despite
having drainage canals in the area that will help
address high surface water the area is often
affected by flood because the existing canals are
quite small and can’t accommodate voluminous
amount of voluminous water. Active scouring along
the channels of Pangi River is also observed
during the assessment.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Prohibition of additional settlements along or near flood susceptible areas especially proximal to Pangi River is highly
recommended.
• Installation of riverbank protection/ engineering measures for actively eroding banks of Pangi River.
• Residents should also observed for saturated ground and/or displaced road surfaces and report to the
BDRRMC/LDRRMC/MGB.
• Install signages on actively eroding ground/areas.

BARANGAY L0MUYON

Barangay Lomuyon is a coastal which is located

on the eastern portion of the municipality.
Generally, it is characterized by a flat and a
mountainous topography. Therefore, some of its
puroks is affected by mass movements.

During the field assessment, several landslide

scarps were observed in Purok Rattan especially
on its mountainous portions where widespread
conversion of slopes areas to agricultural lands is
observed. Furthermore, on June 2018, a landslide
has occurred in their purok center which almost
killed seven (7) persons who happen to take
shelter that time due to the heavy rain.

Several rivers traverse Barangay Lomuyon

namely: Matablao, Lumotan Matablao, Pag-ibig
and Kiblis. High flooding along the nearest anks of
these river as well as at their mouths/junctions is
usually experienced.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Prohibition of additional settlements along or near flood susceptible areas speficically proximal to rivers of Matablao, Mabla,
Lomutan and unnamed these creeks is recommended.
• Installation of river protection/ engineering measures on actively eroding banks of Lumotan, Matablao River, Kiblis River
and Mabla River should be considered.
• Residents should also observed for saturated ground and/or displaced road surfaces and report to the
BDRRMC/LDRRMC/MGB.
• Install signages on actively eroding ground/areas.

BARANGAY LUMA

Barangay Luma is one of the coastal barangays in

the municipality. Its area generally flat which
makes it less likely to be affected by landslide.
However, a portion of Purok Ilang-Ilang is defined
by a moderately steep sloping terrain where mass
movement may occur.

The barangay is bounded by wide, heavily silted

Pangi River on its southwest which frequently
overflows affecting the barangay especially those
puroks proximal to it. These puroks are Purok
Sampaguita and Purok Ilang-Ilang. As observed
also during the field assessment, the current of
Pangi River is very strong. In fact the dikes which
are constructed along its banks are observed to be
slightly damaged brought by the river’s current.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Prohibition of additional settlements along or near flood susceptible areas especially proximal to Pangi River is highly
recommended.
• Installation of riverbank protection engineering measures on actively eroding banks of Pangi River.
• Residents should also observed for saturated ground and/or displaced road surfaces and report to the
BDRRMC/LDRRMC/MGB.
• Install signages on actively eroding ground/areas.

BARANGAY MALIGANG

Barangay Maligang is characterized by

moderately to steeply sloping terrain
concentrated on its northern portion while a
moderately sparse flat areas on its south. In
terms of mass movements, landslide prone areas
are observable along the roadcuts from Purok
Sentro and Proper going to Malayo. The road
cuts are affected by landslide in areas where
most slopes are converted into agricultural lands
(corn field-erosion of overlying materials).

Moreover, majority of the high relief and steep

terrain areas of the barangay are identified to be
moderately to highly susceptible to landslide. In
terms of flooding, flooded areas are concentrated
proximal to Maligang River, Kalagot Creek,
Malayo Creekl. Moderate to high flooding usually
affects portions of Purok 2-Proper, Purok 3-
Kalamunding; roads networks connecting Purok
5-Baluno, Purok 6-Nap, Purok 7-Salyan and
Purok 4-Malayo. Most are not connected by
culvert/bridge, making accessible difficult during
rainfall.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
• Built up areas in Purok 6-Nap is established on an old course of the Maligang River as indicated by several boulder size
rocks. Possibility of the river to return to its old track is expected. Therefore affecting the existing houses and infrastructures
in the area. Relocation of the residents in the area is highly recommended.
• Avoid settlements to be established on steep slopes and near active channels
• Provision of bridge and culverts on access roads traversed by creeks should be considered. This is to promote good
accessibility and evacuation route in the barangay.
• Improvement and rehabilitation of existing culvert/bridge connecting Purok 4-Malayo and Purok 3-Kalamunding is highly
recommended.
• Implement easements especially on areas/puroks near the observed creeks and rivers in the barangay. It should be based
from existing Water Code of the Philippines.
• Prohibit conversion of steep slope areas into corn fields is highly recommended.
• Signages should be put up in areas with identified and observed landslide to inform the residents to practice extreme
caution during heavy rainfall in the area.
• Ripraps and other landslide mitigating measures may be installed on areas with active landslides.
• Evacuation protocol, information and its dissemination should be made known by the residents living in areas identified as
geohazard prone areas.
• Preparedness and awareness should be practiced at all times.

BARANGAY NALUS

Barangay Nalus is characterized by relatively flat

to gentle topography mostly confined on the
southern portion while rugged to mountainous
topography is observed on the central portion
running towards northern portion of the barangay.

Landslide susceptible areas are observed along

the vicinity of Sitios Green Valley, Km 4, Lahak
Awa, Tabotong, Banate, and Tulad. These areas
are bounded by steep to very steep sloping terrain
which is very conducive to landslide occurrences.

Flood hazards are confined within the low-lying

areas on the southern portion of the barangay.
Floodwaters emanate from Nalus River (affecting
Puroks Crismus and Masagana and other adjacent
low-lying areas) and Sawagen River (affecting the
areas of Purok Ilang-Ilang).

In addition to the floodwater sources, the relatively

flat terrain of the southern portion of the barangay
are conducive to flood emanation. Also,
floodwaters also emanate from existing drainage

RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Immediate relocation of human settlements away from Nalus and Sawagen River; near the shoreline;
• Prohibition of human settlements along low-lying areas near Nalus River, Sawagen River, and other unnamed local creeks
and rivers;
• Pre-emptive evacuation of settlers near Nalus and Sawagen Rivers especially if there’s continuous heavy rainfall;
• Prohibition of human settlements along steep to very steep sloping terrain especially along the areas going to Sitio Green
Valley;
• Provision of additional wide and deep drainage canals especially on areas that are frequently affected by flooding;
• Installation of early warning devices (e.g. signage) on areas that are susceptible to flooding and landslide;
• Activation of BDRRMC is highly recommended;
• Observe for and monitor the presence of ground cracks and report to MDRRMC or MGB;
• Awareness and preparedness should be practiced at all times.

BARANGAY POBLACION

Barangay Poblacion is generally low susceptible in

landslide, with most of its puroks are located on a
relatively flat terrain. However, those puroks that
are proximal to the Tual River are considered to be
prone to riverbank erosion, making them
susceptible to landslide. Also, the elevated area of
Tuka is considered and identified to be prone to
landslide, rockslide and even rock fall.

In terms of flooding, flood affected puroks are

concentrated proximal to Tual River, which often
receives big volume of water from elevated areas
causing it to overflow. The riverine flooding is
potential to affect several houses built near the
banks, as water usually overflows onto it. There
are already mitigating measures installed along the
riverbank, but its length is not yet enough to
prevent flooding in the area.

Moreover, moderate flooding is being experienced

on areas with no proper drainage systems and
overflowing of small creeks as observed in Purok
Ilang-ilang.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Relocation of houses and implementation of easement should be considered by the LGU especially on houses built near
Tual River.
• If relocation is impossible, immediate installation/completion of existing protective dike should be prioritized. Extension of
the said structure covering all riverbank erosion affected puroks should be considered.
• Easement should also be implemented along the coastal area to avoid the ill-effects of coastal geohazards and processes.
Also, construction of any shoreline protection should also be considered.
• Improvement of existing drainage canals should also be considered. This is to accommodate surface run-off and prevent
the streets from being flooded.
• Areas with no existing proper drainage systems should also be prioritized. Putting up effective drainage systems in the area
will prevent flooding during continuous and heavy rainfall.

BARANGAY SALAKIT

Barangay Salakit is located generally

on a flat terrain and is located on the
southwestern portion of the
municipality. Purok Bannawag, which
is located on a rolling topography may
be affected by mass movements.

High flooding is observed along the

channels of unnamed creeks as well
as the mouth of these creeks in the
barangay, Purok Talisay which is
bounded by Kansan River may
experience flooding brought by the
overflowing of the said river

RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Prohibition of additional settlements along or near flood susceptible areas especially proximal to Kansan River and
unnamed creeks in the barangay.
• Installation of riverbank protection/ engineering measures on actively eroding banks of Kansan River.
• Install signages on actively eroding ground/areas.

BARANGAY SULI
Barangay Suli is one of the coastal barangays of the municipality. It is characterized
by relatively flat terrain on its south while its northern portion is generally
characterized by moderately sloping steep topography. When it comes to mass
movements, rockfall and landslides could occur anytime on those moderately to
steeply sloping terrain, specifically in areas of puroks Pag-asa and Upper
Sampaguita. These areas are classified as moderately to highly susceptible to
landslide. Several households were built near the foot slope of the area’s high relief
topography, where settlements from Tboli tribes are located. In February 26, 2017, a
landslide occurred in the area due to moderate rainfall but lasted for several hours.
Also, the purok is prone to flashflood brought by the existing El Gandang Creek
which traverses the said purok. Also, slope areas of Pag-asa are prone to rock
falls/slides.

Flooding is also one of the perennial problems of the barangay. Its area is often
affected by high surface run-offs especially those puroks adjacent to mountainous
areas; fluvial flooding brought by the existing rivers and creeks within the barangay
and the effects of coastal processes (wave actions and tides) usually lead to coastal
flooding along the beach area of the barangay. Active channels of El Gandang
Creek, Bui Creek and Kapate River are usual sources of floods within the low lying
areas of the barangay. Maximum of 2-3 days flood is experienced in Puroks
Mabuhay 1 and 2 wherein every time that high tide occurs and it coincided with the
strong water flows from the mentioned bodies of water in the barangay usual flood is
experienced. Portions of Lower and Upper Sampaguita are often affected by El
Gandang Creek and other unnamed creeks/tributaries in the area. Often affected
are trails and roads compromising good evacuation route prior to a disaster. These
creeks are narrow and are usually the areas where flashflood/s occur. Flooding due
to overflowing of rivers and creeks, which usually being intercepted by high tide. It is
observable and experienced in Purok San Jose,

Mabuhay 1 and Mabuhay 2. Existing crops in the area is usually affected by river
water and seawater flooding leading to crop failures. Moreover, ineffective drainage
canals, culverts and other structures unable to accommodate big volume of water
leading to overflowing to adjacent areas of flood affected puroks in the barangay.
Repair, rehabilitation and improvement of these structures are highly recommended.
High flooding is usually experienced several meters along coastline (high tide area),
those areas along and at the mouths of existing rivers and creeks. Observable in
Puroks San Jose, Mabuhay 1 and Mabuhay 2. Upper Sampaguita and Lower
Sampaguita are at risk being affected by low moderate flood brought by high surface
run-offs from elevated areas concentrated at the north.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
• Relocation of houses built near/adjacent to areas with active landslides (and history of landslides), immediate channels prone flashfloods, at the
mouths of rivers/creeks and those that situated few meters from shoreline and other water bodies in the barangay is highly recommended.
• Avoid and/or prohibit additional settlements (and those planning to build) especially on areas identified as moderate to highly susceptible areas;
and areas where levels of flood are experienced. This is to prevent further casualties and damage properties from a future inevitable disaster that
the barangay may experience.
• Setbacks should be considered in planning to establish settlement areas/zones and is highly recommended. Buffer zones of several meters from
a slope area and/or easements of a specific distance from an active riverbank/channel should be implemented.
• Slope areas should not be considered as area for settlements and agricultural zone. Retain their used as forestland. Reforestation of these areas
should be considered.
• Observe for any rapid flow and rise of river water (including seawater) in the identified flood affected areas of the barangay; and evacuate the
area as needed or as per advised by the local DRRM.
• Evacuation route/protocol should be made aware and accessible to residents living in areas identified as landslide and/or flood prone areas.
• Activate/promote and strengthen the BDRRM; the barangay’s coordination with the LDRRM-Kiamba and other national agencies should be
considered.
• Improvement of existing road networks promote good evacuation route should also be considered by the concerned BLGU and MLGU.
• Awareness and preparedness should be practiced at all times.

BARANGAY TABLAO

Barangay Tablao is characterized by very steeply

sloping and hilly topography on the eastern,
northeastern and southern portion with low-lying
areas on the western portion that are identified as
floodplains of Pangi River.

Landslide susceptible areas are identified in

Puroks Sipiling, and Madfok which are
characterized by steep to very steep sloping
terrain.

Low-lying areas of the barangay near Pangi River

such as Purok Kabatuan (including the barangay
hall), Purok Bannawag, and Purok Pag-asa are
subject to severe flooding. These areas are
identified as part of the floodplains of Pangi River.

Furthermore, local creek such as Tablaubong

Creek and other unnamed creeks are also sources
of flooding in the barangay, afflecting Purok
Madpok and mostly rice fields.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Immediate relocation of human settlements in Puroks Bannawag, Pag-asa, and Kabatuan, especially those settlers near
Pangi River.
• Possible relocation of human settlements in Purok Madpok near Tablaubong Creek.
• Prohibition of human settlements along low-lying areas near Pangi River, Tablaubong Creek, and other local creeks;
• Pre-emptive evacuation of settlers near Pangi River, Tablaubong Creek, and other local creeks and rivers, especially during

BARANGAY TAMADANG

Barangay Tamadang is located on the central

portion of the municipality and situated northwest
of Barangay Suli and Barangay Kapate. It is a
mountainous barangay which makes some of its
purok critical for landslide hazard. Areas with
moderate to high landslide susceptibility rating
include Purok Falel, Purok Montano, Purok
Takilib, Sitio Datal Bong and Sitio Datal Uga.
These areas are characterized by moderately to
steep sloping terrain which are prone to mass
movement.

In terms of flooding, areas being traversed by

Tual River including Purok Magkaisa and
Sabayol may experience severe flooding
especially along the active channels of the said
river. Moreover, a former river channel of Tual
may experience flooding which makes it not safe
for putting up and infrastructures.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

 Prohibition of additional settlements along or near flood susceptible areas especially proximal to Tual River is highly
recommended.
 Installation of riverbank protection/ engineering measures on actively eroding banks of Tual River.
 Observed for and/or monitor for presence of mass movement (landslide, tension cracks, soil creeps displaced road
surfaces, seepage) and report to the MGB/Municipal Authorities (MDRRMO).
 Observed for saturated ground or seeps and sunken or displaced road surfaces and report to the MGB/Municipal
Authorities (MDRRMO).
 Install signages on actively eroding ground/areas.
 Extra vigilance should be practiced by residents during events of heavy rainfall due to the possible occurrence of landslide.
 Awareness campaigns to the residents should be conducted. Community-based landslide early warning and evacuation
protocol should be established by activating the BDRRMC.
 Coordination of the barangay with the municipal government should be strengthened.
 Awareness and preparedness should be practiced at all times.

BARANGAY TAMBILIL

Barangay Tambilil is characterized by flat to

gentle topography concentrated on the southern
and central portion while mountainous
topography runs towards the northeastern
portion.

Landslide susceptible areas are found on the

northeastern portion of the barangay going to
Purok Matingao I wherein active landslides were
observed flanking the access roads.

Flood susceptible areas are mostly concentrated

near Tambilil River which affects low-lying areas
of Puroks Matingao I and II, Tabudtud, Pansulan,
and Nagayon (located near the mouth of the
river). Ricefields are also often being flooded due
to overflowing of irrigation canals and local
creeks.
