1 INTRODUCTION
Energy Equity Epic (Sengkang) Pty. Ltd is one of the Indonesian oil and gas company, this
company operate and process natural gas on Wajo district, South Sulawesi province.
Gas well that has been explored by Energy Equity Epic (Sengkang) Pty. Ltd are 10 (ten) wells, and
only 3 (three) wells on operation and produced natural gas. Those wells are KB#4A, KB#6A, and
KB#8A. Before distributed to user (PT. Energy Sengkang). The natural gas will be purified and
processes on central processing and separation plant (Central Processing Plant / CPP).
The processed gas on CPP (Central Processing Plant) will be distributed using Patila Measuring
Station (PMS) that manage by PT. Energy Sengkang. The gas will be utilized as fuel for 135 MW
power plant belong to PLN VIII Area Sulawesi.
The process of gas purification and processing on CPP use absorption and desorpsion technology
using the MDEA (Methyl Diethanol Amine) soilution to separate gas impurities like carbon dioxide
(CO2) and hidrogen sulphide (H2S). Through the purification and processing stage there are other
impurities whom unable to remove directly like degradated amine compouns, light phase liquid
hydrocarbon compound (condensat), lefover hydrogen sulphide from previous process and other
impurities.
With limitation of purification and separation efficiency, it is often that impurities compound mix on
production waste water treatment. If it left unprocessed in will couse anouther problem like:
a) The occurance of toxic gas emission like low concentration H2S to the open air that has
potention on causing bad smell.
b) The occurance of hydrocarbon compund emission like keton compound or hydrocarbon
compoind that has potention on causing bad smell and increasing flammability to the
environment
c) The pollution of surface water by waste water due to dangerous substances, this could be
indicated by high number of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Biological Oxygen
Demand (BOD) and also other phisical and chemical parameters on water.

2 OBJECTIVE
The purpose of this document is to define the general philosophy for the design of control systems
and the general safeguarding philosophy for the Wastewater Treatment of Produced Water Project.

4 PROCESS DESCRIPTION
Wastewater treatment is a facility to treating produced water with capacity 5000 liters/day.
Wastewater treatment comprises of Pre-Treatment, Biological Treatment, Chemical Treatment, and
Sludge Treatment.

Pre-Treatment comprises of Sumpit Tank (01 and 02), Equalization Tank, and Oil Trap / Oil Catcher
Tank. Pre-Treatment is the first stage of waste water treatment process, it has function to separate
the oil content and reduce the smell of waste water.
Biological Treatment comprises of Aeration Tank complete with Biocleaner and Intermediate Tank.
This Treatment is the second stage which has process to reduce organic content and COD on
wastewater by microorganism (bacteria) in biocleaner and aeration process with oxygen (O 2) injection
to wastewater by root blower.
Chemical Treatment comprises of Chemical System (including Chemical Tank and Chemical Pump),
Static Mixer, Clarifier Tank, Intermediate Tank, and Filtration System (including Filtration Pump, Sand
Filter and Carbon Filter). Chemical Treatment is the third stage which has process to reduce solid
content (TSS) and available oil on waste water.
Sludge Treatment is the stage of sludge handling of wet sludge from waste water by filter press to
produce dry sludge with water content 18% volume.

5 CONTROL PHILOSOPHY
5.1 General

The control panel shall provide the process control for the facilities. This process control consists of
automatic and manual operation by pressing the push button on the control panel.

5.2 Sumpit Tank

Waste water will be collected on Sumpit Tank before treatment process. Sumpit Tank comprise of
Sumpit Tank 01 (T-1001) and Sumpit Tank 02 (T-1002). Sumpit tank 01 (T-1001) will collect waste
water from produced water (influent) and reject water. Reject water comes from backwash sand and
carbon filter, process, and filter press. Sumpit tank 02 (T-1002) collect reject water from oil trap/trap
catchcer (T-1004). Water and oil will be separated manually with certain retention time in sumpit tank
02 (T-002), and then water will flow through T-pipe to sumpit tank 01 (T-1001).
Waste water will be routed to equalization tank (T-1003) by sumpit pump (P-1001). Sumpit Tank 01
has been provided with water level control WLC-01 that starts the Sumpit Pump automatically. This
pump operates on manual or automatic basis. In manual operation, pump operation will be controlled
by pressing start / stop push button. In automatic operation, pump operation will be controlled by
water level control, which is located in sumpit tank-01.
Level setting point of WLC-01:
 High High Level : 1600 mm from bottom, alarm, initiate Inlet Pump (existing) to stop
 High Level : 1500 mm from bottom, initiate pump start
 Low Level : 350 mm from bottom, initiate pump stop
 Common : 250 mm from bottom

5.3 Equalization Tank

Equalization Tank is design for equalizing the concentration and reducing the smell of waste water
with oxygen (O2) injection by root blower to the waste water.
The blowers operate on a duty/standby basis. The oxygen from root blower will inject to equalization
tank and aeration tank/bioclener with capacity 1.5 m 3/min. Pressure relief valve (PRV) are installed to
protect Root Blowers from overpressure. PRV shall to open at pressure 44 kPa to release the
overpressure.

5.4 Oil Catcher / Oil Trap

From Equalization Tank, the wastewater will be directed to Oil Catcher/Oil Trap where oil will be
separated from water and collected in an oil bucket. Water will be routed to Aeration Tank/Biocleaner
by gravity. Collected oil will be routed to Sumpit Tank 02 by gravity.

5.5 Aeration Tank/Biocleaner

Water from Oil Catcher/Oil Trap will be treating using Aeration Process to degrade the organic
compounds, COD component, and phenol from water by microorganism (bacteria) in biocleaner and
oxygen supply from root blower.
The treated water will be routed to Intermediate Tank 01 by gravity. From Intermediate Tank 01,
treated water will be routed to static mixer for chemical treatment by Feed Pump. Intermediate Tank
01 has been provided with water level control that starts the Feed Pump. A high high liquid level shall
initiate Sumpit Pump to stop.
Level setting point of WLC-02:
 High High Level : 1800 mm from bottom, alarm, initiate Sumpit Pump to stop
 High Level : 1600 mm from bottom, initiate pump start
 Low Level : 600 mm from bottom, pump stop
 Common : 500 mm from bottom

5.6 Chemical Treatment

Treated water from Intermediate Tank 01 will be injected with flocculant and coagulant chemical, to
produce flocs, that is solid with the bigger size, to separate solid content from water. Flocculant and
Coagulant chemical will be mixing with water by static mixer. After static mixer, treated water will be
injected with neutralization chemical to neutralize the pH of water.

5.7 Clarifier Tank

Treated water will be directed to Clarifier Tank where solid (flocs) will be separated from water and
collected in bottom of Clarifier Tank. Water will be routed to Intermediate Tank 02 by gravity.
Collected solid as wet sludge will be routed to Sludge Treatment. From Intermediate Tank 02, water
will be routed to Filtration System by Filtration Pump. Intermediate Tank 02 has been provided with
water level control that starts the Filtration Pump. A high high liquid level shall initiate Feed Pump to
stop.
Level setting point of WLC-03:
 High High Level : 1800 mm from bottom, alarm, initiate Feed Pump to stop
 High Level : 1600 mm from bottom, initiate pump start
 Low Level : 600 mm from bottom, pump stop
 Common : 500 mm from bottom
