Pedagogy Planning

questions and move/sort theme descriptions and learn about theme.

Activity 1. Teacher will ask students to come to the carpet area in
front of the interactive whiteboard.
2. Teacher will use popsicle sticks with students’ names
to use when selecting students to give answers or go
up to the board.
3. The teacher will begin by having Classflow open the
“Understanding Theme with Aesop’s Fables” flipchart
open. The first three slides will be the teacher teaching
and discussing what theme is and what it is not.
4. After the mini lesson, the teacher will move on to slide
four. Slide four has an interactive component that will
allow students to move and sort statements that need
to be sorted under “Checkmark for Author’s
message/Theme” and “X for Author’s
message/theme”. The teacher will choose a popsicle
stick with a student’s name to sort one of the
statements to the correct column. After each
statement is sorted the teacher can ask the class if they
disagree or agree with how the statement was sorted
by showing a thumbs up or down. If there are no
thumbs down and the statement is sorted correctly
then the teacher will move on to pick another student.
If there are students that disagree with how the
statement is sorted, they can share why they think it
should be sorted differently. This will allow the teacher
to see how students are handling the material being
taught or correct misunderstanding of material.
5. Slide five has an audio recording of a fable. After the
teacher reminds students about what to think about
when identifying theme. The class will listen to the
fable.
6. After listening to the fable, the class will do “Think-
Pair-Share”. The students will be discussing what they
think is the theme of the fable that everyone listened
to. Students will be encouraged to whisper to their
partner so everyone can have a chance to discuss and
come to their own answer.
7. After “Think-Pair-Share”. The teacher will move on to
slide seven and ask students to vote which answer is
closest to the theme they discussed with their
partners. The students will vote by using their fingers
under their chin. A= one finger, B=two fingers, and
C=three fingers. Students will keep their answer under
their chin so the teacher can see who is correctly
answering and who might still need help with theme.
After the teacher has seen all student answers, the
teacher will pick a popsicle stick for a student to circle
their answer on the interactive whiteboard. Student
will then vote to see if everyone agrees or disagrees on
Technology.
