There are Four question. Answer all of them.

1. a) Differential equations of two spring-mass systems are given by (i) [2] CO1
d 2 x1 k d 2 x2 k
2
 x  0 and (ii) 2
 x  0.
dt m1 dt m2 If m1>m2, (i) Write solutions of two
differential equations. (ii) Which spring-mass system has more time
period?Why?

b) A simple pendulum is oscillating on a horizontal plane. The maximum [1] CO1

displacement of the bob from its equilibrium is A. At what positions the
maximum velocity and acceleration occur?

CO1
2. a) At t = 0, the displacement of the block in a spring-mass system is -8.50 cm. [3] CO3
from the equilibrium position. The block’s velocity then is -0.920 m/s, and its
acceleration is +47.0 m/s2. (i) What is the angular frequency of this system? (ii)
What are the phase constant  and amplitude A?

b) Suppose the block has mass m =2.72 ×105 kg and is designed to oscillate at [3] CO3
frequency f=10.0 Hz and with amplitude A=20.0 cm. (i) What is the total
energy E of the spring–block system? (ii) What is the block’s speed at the
equilibrium point?

c) A series RLC circuit has the following parameters: R= 1 kΩ, L=1 H, and C=10 CO3
nF. (i) What type of damping does this circuit exhibit? (ii) In the same circuit if [3]
L is changed to 1mH, then what will be the damping nature?

3. a) A wave has an angular frequency of 110 rad/s and a wavelength of 1.80 m. [2] CO3
Calculate (i) the speed of the wave. (ii) Frequency of oscillating particle and
(iii) write the equation for the wave.

b) A charge of q1= -2.0 μC is located on the y-axis 1.0 m from the origin at the [3] CO3
coordinates (0,1) while a second charge of q2= +2.0 μC is located on the x-axis
1.0 m from the origin at the coordinates (1,0). Another charge q3 = +1.0 μC is at
origin. Find out magnitude and direction of resultant force on q3 due q1 and q2.

4. a) Derive differential equation for simple pendulum and find the expression of [3] CO2
frequency of the pendulum.

OR, Derive the equation for relation between particle and wave velocities.
