Rara lake

Lake Rara is the biggest fresh water lake in the Himalayan region of Nepal. This is the
main attraction of the Rara National Park, located in the districts of Jumla and Mugu in Karnali
Province. The total area of rara national park is 106 sq.km.

Agriculture is the primary occupation of the people that live in the region. People also
rear goats for the purpose of extracting medicinal plants and selling them. In the community,
Thakur society is dominant. Thakur Baba's Temple is located in the lake's southeast corner.
Locals say that the god Thakur fired an arrow to open the lake's channel, so minimizing flooding
damage. In this region, the Nepalese language is said to have originated. Marsi Chamal is the
only paddy that is cultivated in the highest altitude of the world.

Summer is lovely, but winter is very cold. September/October and April/May are the best
months to visit the lake. Temperatures drop below freezing from December to March, and
significant snowfall of up to one meter occurs, limiting access to the lake. The months of April to
June are hot in this area. More than 214 bird species, 20 mammal species and 500 flower types
can be observed there. The park is the home of wildlife like red panda, ghorals, musk deer,
leopard, black deer etc. This Ramsar listed place is also loved by migratory birds.

If you ask anyone who has visited Rara Lake where the bluest water in the world is, they
would undoubtedly say Rara Lake. The Lake, on the other hand, changes colors three times a
day. It's unclear why this is happening. In addition, the lake's background is always changing. A
lake's water is crystal clean. When you're rowing on a lake, you can see the hills in the distance,
and you can see the same hills and your image if you look down. Who else is luckier than you if
you remain there overnight on a full moon night? Green hills being around the Rara Lake,
visitors can go to hike on those hills. Since the Lake has large area so hills are the perfect places
to observe the whole Lake. Different kinds of floras and faunas can be observed on the hills
during hiking. Homestays are offered in the communities surrounding Rara Lake. The Red Panda
Hotel is a great place to stay if you want to be near Rara Lake. It's usually a good idea to reserve
a hotel ahead of time. Alternatively, they provide tents and other viable options for serving
consumers.
Due to over-grazing and defecation, the national park conservation officers are facing a
challenge to preserve the lake. Local people are found cutting timber wood and fuel wood, which
is a problem for conservation of Rara. Also, during festivals visitors and local people produce a
lot of wastage causing water pollution. There is no road facilities in rara lake so, to reach rara
you have to travel more. If you are willing to be there then you can buy a plan ticket.
