Light Under the Toll

There is no library, no science lab. There aren’t event any toilets. Only old desk
and a rudimentary whiteboards give the semblance of classroom. But the simple facilities
do not stop the children from coming each day to “toll road school”. They are enthusistic
to learn although they always hear the noise of the traffic all around and also the dust and
smoke of the garbage in the area.
The Kartini emergency school set up by the twin teachers Rossy and Rian,
located under the pluit-Tanjung Priok toll road in the North Jakarta, which provides free
education for the children of scavenger families who survive by collecting recyclables
thrown out by millions of Jakarta’s each days.
It is hard to say, but it is a sad our education here. Can they have the same
oppurtunity with the others? This is the problem that we still bring in every sleep.
