1.    Describe the role of the Indian Army during natural disasters.

Ans: It conducts humanitarian rescue operations during natural calamities and other disturbances, like

Operation Surya Hope, and can also be requisitioned by the government to cope with internal threats.

2.    The Indian Army is involved not only in conflicts, but also in peace-making efforts. Elucidate the given

statement.

Ans: Conducted large peace time exercises like Operation Brasstacks and Exercise Shoorveer - an active

participant in numerous United Nations peacekeeping missions including those in: Cyprus, Lebanon,

Congo, Angola, Cambodia, Vietnam, Namibia, El Salvador, Liberia, Mozambique and Somalia.

3.    How many Indian Army officers have been conferred the rank of field marshal?

Ans: 2 officers

4.    Is Indian army the only component of national power? Why/Why not?

Ans: No, national power is a combination of the army, the navy and the air force.

5.    The basic field formation in the Indian army is division.

6.    Find the synonym of the given word from the passage mentioned above.

a. “ and the wind will be friends with us”. How can you make friends with wind and why does the poet
say that the wind is clever at poking fun at weaklings?

To make friends with the wind, we must make ourselves stronger. We should build strong homes,
strong doors, strong windows and practice to make our bodies and hearts stronger.
Wind makes fun of the weaklings by separating them from the strong and then crushing them by its
force. Wind who is very strong does not behave in a friendly way with the weak. It destroys the
weaklings.

b. As a child Einstein showed no signs of a genius. Substantiate this statement by bringing out any two
instances mentioned in the lesson.

As a child, Einstein showed no early signs of his genius. He had a large head and his mother thought
that he was a freak. He did not start to speak till he was two-and-a-half years old and finally when he
started speaking, he uttered everything twice. He did not interact well with other children, and always
played alone.

VIII.  Answer the following questions in 40-50 words:     (3X2=6 Marks)


a. What action of Toto attracted a curious crowd of onlookers on the Dehra Dun railway platform?
Explain
 Toto was packed in a big black canvas bag from where he could not escape. 
 The bag rolled or jumped in the air when he tried to get out.
 This attracted the onlooker's curious attention at the platform.

b. Do you think the lost child was a nature-lover? Justify your answer with relevant instances mentioned
in the story. (any two)

 The Lost child was a natural lover because he was initially fascinated by the flowering mustard
field, dragonfly little insect and worm bees and butterflies on the way to the fair.
 Nature has the power to attract everyone towards it- be it a child or adult, nature appeals to
all.
 On the way to the fair there was so much to be seen that was offered by nature. The child was
stuck by all of them and the parents had to wait for him.

IX. Answer the following question in 100-120 words:    (6X1=6 Marks)


“Grandmother is a remarkable person, who is a wonderful combination of warmth, kindness and love.”
Was it true in the case of Kezia? What kind of relationship did she share with her grandmother?

Yes, it’s absolutely true in case of Kezia.

• Loving: Grandmother showered abundant love upon the little girl.

• Understanding and good guide: She kept trying to build Kezia’s bond with her parents. She advised

Kezia to talk to her parents when they would relax in the drawing-room on Sunday afternoons.

• Kind adviser: Again, she told Kezia about Father’s birthday and suggested that she should make a

pincushion for him as a present.

• Affectionate comforter : When the father beat Kezia, it was her grandmother who consoled and

comforted her by covering her with her shawl and allowing the child to cling to her soft body.

• Motherly and caring :Whenever Kezia would get scared by her nightmares, grandmother would take

her in her own bed. Hence, her affinity and support made Kezia look up to her for everything.
