Social work is the profession of promoting social changes, problem solving in humans,
empowerment and liberation of peoples to enhance well-beings.

Basic aim is to enhance psychological & emotional functioning so that a person can handle
his/her problems.

Directorate of Social Welfare in Pakistan


Every new and existing voluntary social welfare agency has to be registered under the voluntary
social welfare agency, registration and control 1961.
Almost 28 colleges are offering social work as the optional subject; only 08 public sector
universities are influencing education on social welfare work.
Tertiary education on social welfare work is offered by University of Punjab, University Of
Peshawar, University of Bahawalpur & University of Sargodha.

Features of Voluntary Social Welfares


Set up by individual’s themselves.
Should registered and has legal status under Voluntary social welfare agency.
Should has the managing individual elected or nominated by the members.
Should has the sense of commitment for the social development.

Role of Voluntary Welfare Services


Motivating and organizing peoples for their own help.
Rehabilitation.
Providing voluntary services, trainings, welfare and employment.
Community Development.
Promoting pilot projects.

Grant-in-Aid by Government
An amount by government given to the voluntary agency is called grant-in-aid.
It’s given in condition to,
Maintain the voluntary services.
Provide the right of inspection and direction.
In case of any unsatisfactory services government has right to hold on payment.

To ensure the voluntary services.
To assist agencies to improve their services by employment of qualified staff.

To encourage the growth of social work and for the awareness of social welfares among the
peoples.

Difference between Professional & Voluntary Social Workers


Professional social workers are trained in their field and give services for the development,
growth and wellbeing of peoples.
While voluntary social worker are not professional in their job but the helps community as well
as professional workers.

Concept of social work in Islam


Serving others is considered as worship in Islam, Only by serving peoples we shall has he
Allah’s mercy.
There are two basic principles in Islam

Mean do good to parents, relatives, orphans and all humanity.
