Start By:

a. Separate the track.

b. Remove the steering motor.

c. Remove the drive axles.

NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and
repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with
suitable containers before opening any compartment or
disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool


Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and


mandates.

1. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Power Train Oil - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

2. Remove six bolts (1) from adapter (2) for the steering motor.

3. Install three 3/8 inch by 16 forcing bolts in holes (9) in order to remove the adapter from the main case.

4. Remove O-ring seal (3).

5. Rotate the final drive until drain plug (4) is at the bottom.

6. Remove plug (4) and the O-ring seal. Drain the oil from the final drive.

7. Install a new O-ring seal and install drain plug (4).

Note: Use tool (A) to slide the sliding carrier off the bevel gear shaft.

8. Insert tool (A) 940 mm (37 inch) in the final drive housing.

9. Rotate tool (A) by 180 degrees.

10. Pull tool (A) until the sliding carrier stops.

11. Rotate tool (A) by 180 degrees and remove tool (A).

12. See Illustration 5 for the correct adjustment of tool (B).

Personal injury or death can result from lifting a heavy


assembly.

The heavy assembly can fall if using an incorrect hoist to lift the
load.

Be sure the hoist has the correct capacity to lift a heavy


assembly. Approximate weight of the assembly is given below.

Note: The weight of the final drive, differential, and brake assembly (11) is 850 kg (1875 lb).

13. Remove two nuts, two bolts and two washers (12) from the sprockets. Install tool (B) and a hoist.

14. Remove seven bolts and washers (10) from the final drive flange.

15. Install tool (C).

16. Remove nineteen bolts and washers (5) and remove two bolts and washers (7). Do not remove two bolts (6).

17. Pull out the unit of the final drive, the steering differential, and the brake assembly (11) by approximately 25 mm (1 inch). The
assembly should be free.

18. Use tool (C) to rotate the assembly by 45 to 60 degrees counterclockwise.

19. Remove the unit of the final drive, the steering differential, and the brake assembly (11).

20. Remove three O-ring seals (8).

Installation Procedure
1. Install final drive, the steering differential, and the brake assembly (11) in the reverse order of removal.

a. Position final drive, the steering differential, and the brake assembly (11) by approximately 25 mm (1 inch) from the case.

b. Use Tooling (C) to rotate clockwise for correct orientation.

c. Apply SAE 30W oil to the threads of the sprocket segment bolts.

d. Tighten the nuts (12) to a torque of 300 ± 50 N·m (221 ± 37 lb ft). Tighten the nuts (12) by another 1/3 turn. The final
torque must be a minimum of 570 N·m (420 lb ft).

e. Tighten six bolts (1) to a torque of 47 ± 9 N·m (35 ± 7 lb ft).
