Start By:

a. Remove the refrigerant condenser.

b. Remove the main drive shaft.

c. Remove the axles.

d. Remove the ripper pin puller control valve.

NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and
repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with
suitable containers before opening any compartment or
disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool


Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and


mandates.

1. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Transmission Oil - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

2. Remove yoke (1), bolts (2), plate (3), and the O-ring seal.

Insert Tooling (B) into the left final drive by approximately 940 mm (37.0 inch). Rotate Tooling (B) for 180 degrees. Pull Tooling
(B) outward to move the sliding carrier off the bevel gear shaft. Rotate Tooling (B) for 180 degrees and remove Tooling (B).

4. Disconnect hose assemblies (4) and reposition hose assemblies (4).

5. Disconnect harness assembly (6) and tube assemblies (7).

6. Attach a suitable lifting device to manifold assembly (8). The weight of manifold assembly (8) is approximately 29 kg (65 lb).
Remove bolts (5) and manifold assembly (8).

7. Remove bolts (13), clip (11), guard (9), and bracket assembly (10). Reposition hose (12).

8. Disconnect harness assembly (14). Remove tube assemblies (7).

9. Attach a suitable lifting device to guard assembly (16). The weight of guard assembly (16) is approximately 61 kg (135 lb).
Remove bolts (15) and guard assembly (16).

10. Remove bolt (22) and bracket (18). Force pin (17) inward until dowel (19) is flush with the mounting frame for the ripper.
Repeat for the opposite side.

11. Remove bolts (20), cover (21), and the gasket.

12. Attach Tooling (A) to transmission (24) and the bevel gear assembly. Attach a suitable lifting device to the end of Tooling (A).
The weight of transmission (24) and the bevel gear assembly is approximately 907 kg (2000 lb).

13. Remove bolts (23). Do not remove bolts (25) that fasten transmission (24) to the bevel gear assembly.

14. Install Tooling (C) to separate transmission (24) and the bevel gear assembly from the case. Slowly remove transmission (24)
and the bevel gear assembly from the case.

15. Position Tooling (A) onto suitable blocking to support transmission (24) and the bevel gear assembly.

16. Attach Tooling (D) and a suitable lifting device to transmission (24) and the bevel gear assembly. Remove Tooling (A).

17. Remove transmission (24) and the bevel gear assembly. Position transmission (24) and the bevel gear assembly onto Tooling
(E). Remove O-ring seals (26) and (27).

Installation Procedure
1. Install transmission (24) and the bevel gear assembly in the reverse order of removal.
