You Will Need:

A race car for each student. Race cars can be
purchased at a dollar store.

To Assemble Your Activity:

• Print the race car tracks on cardstock. Make copies
for each student in the group.
• Laminate the pages if desired.
• Cut each card along the dotted line.

Teaching Directions:
Provide each student with the same race car board and a race car.
Tell the students that they will be blending sounds into words using
the race car. Have the students place their cars at the beginning
of the strip. As the car moves slowly across each letter, stretch out
the letter sound. Repeat several times saying the sounds faster
each time.

Note: The purpose of this activity is to blend sounds together.

Students may not have yet mastered every sound-symbol
correspondence. You may need to provide the students with the
letter sound prior to blending.
