See You Next, Netflix

In the age of entertainment, Netflix provides its service of online streaming of shows, movies,
anime, documentaries, etc. to the public. The constant efforts of human resources have helped
Netflix achieve and develop the position it is in today.

Despite being the backbone of the organisation, the work of human resources has always been
undermined. But this wasn't the first round of layoffs at Netflix in 2022. In May, it laid off
roughly 300 staffers and contractors. With a cut in almost 600 employees in 2022, allegations
against Netflix have been sparking up.

Following this, there have been instances of Netflix violating and terminating employment
contracts prior to their maturity. A study on the same reveals that out of total employees laid off,
most of them were women of colour, Asian, Latinx women and from the LGBTQ+ community.

The cohort of BIPOC writers, such as Black Strong Lead, Con Todo and Golden were employed
to ensure the promised representation of a multiplicity of diverse content. The organisation even
failed at providing the workers with prior notice before laying them off.

Hiring Black, Brown, Indigenous women and LGBTQIA+ community members have become mere
tokenism in the name of inclusivity for a big corporate like Netflix. Time and again, performative
marketing is carried out during Pride Month, which serves as a capitalistic benefit for the
organisation at the expense of the exploitation and the manipulation of the LGBTQIA+ and other
marginalised communities.

The representation of such diverse people in the verticals of Netlfix was once a promising sight
but now with their dismissal, it is merely disappointing. One of the writers remarked, “In some
ways, they were just buying clout to lend credibility to their gambit”. Thus, these difficulties
have bludgeoned the company’s stock price and hurt worker morale.

5. Prepare a poster to ensure the job security of the employees
6. Provide details into the composition of the payroll system
7. Provide an efficiency test to assess the effects of the mass layoff

Prepare a report of not more than 10 pages and a poster for the same.
