Leadership in organizations

1- Workplace experience

I have 3 months work experience in Glue Store as a sales staff. The main duty was to meet
customer needs according to their products demand and generate the potential sales for Glue
store. I served here as a part time student and work time was 6pm to 12am. I always ensure
customer satisfaction and establish good customer relationship to build the store image. I
experience that store run through a systematic and organize way due to the effective management
and suitable leadership style. This is because the leadership shapes the organizational change and
aligns according to the goals. Due to the workforce diversity the internal conflicts among the
sales staff also arise. This is because in Australia there are immigrants and foreigners. In 2020
about 7502,000 people are the foreign residents of Australia or 29.1% foreigners. I experienced
that when change in any store policies, alignment of strategic actions or shift to personnel occurs
the lower level management is not informed about the change. The management informed only
when discounts or service offering occurs. It reflects that Glue store use autocratic leadership
style. In this way the churn rate highly encourages and individual wellbeing and motivation
negatively affected.

2. Analysis of Situation using theory

According to the trait theory the behavioral characteristics and personality traits of leaders in
store are not much effective which cause the internal conflicts. Moreover, we have learned that
leaders must adopt the situational contingency theories according to the current situation. In Glue
store i have observed that leader take independent initiative and decision and impose the policy
on workforce. It increases the lack of commitment, interest and also affects the employees’
wellbeing. It leads the ethical failure in store because autocratic leadership style is not spiritual,
authentic and ethical specifically for Glue store. I experienced that due to lack of strategic
alignment and leadership style according to the store practices the overall performance highly
affected. This is because it affects the staff performance which leads the low productivity.

3. Strategy/Recommendation
After the evaluation of whole scenario and course learning i believe that the best leadership
theory is transactional leadership style and situational contingency theory. As, Glue store has
workforce diversity so situational leadership can deals with the going and incoming changes
more efficiently. I high recommend the adaptive leadership style because leaders can handle the
situation and fit the best option according to the circumstances and goals. Moreover,
transactional leadership style is also suggest as an alternative because the management must
inform about the by upper management before taking any decision. In this way staff stays
infirmed and perform the assign task more effectively and timely. Moreover, staff also
encourage, motivated and show high commitment toward the goals and task accomplishment.

According to Badura et al., (2020) leadership and motivation are strongly linked. So, the leaders
of Glue store must focused on the behavioral and personal characteristics to handle and motivate
the workforce effectively. It will reduce the conflicts and create smooth work environment that
leads the store toward high productivity. The variation and change management can easily
handle through adaptive leadership style because key subordinates, supervisors and peers can
collectively think about different suitable ideas, acquire information and frame action
collectively to promote the coherent action to get desired results successfully.

4. Personal Learning

I have learned that for the successful change and motivation leaders play a vital role. I learned
theoretical model and theories of leadership during course learning that are effective for me to
evuakate the environment and leadership style that organization incorporate. Along with
theoretical knowledge practical learning in real based organization boost my overall learning
regarding to management and leadership. I also learned about the Theory U through which made
me capable to learned theories and become the successful leader. This learning provide self
confidence to me through which i can understand my skills, knowledge and values along with
weakness’s. In future through these experience, critical thinking and self confidence help to
become a great leader through which i can motivate, guide and direct my team i effective way.
The overall experience of learning and analyzing the leadership style to mapping the dynamic
work environment was inspiring and exciting.
