JAWABAN UAS BAHASA INGGRIS II

Work on these descriptions properly and correctly !

A. Silent Letter (10 points).

1) Do the words in English always pronounce the same as what is written?
Why?
Answer :
The words in English don't always pronounced the same as what is written.
Because english writing is silent letters. So, one difficult aspect of English
pronunciation is we don’t always say every letter in a word.
Example we don’t pronounce the ‘ch’ in ‘stomach’ (sto-mek). And sometimes the
pronunciation of a word changes, but the spelling remains the same. furthermore,
important to understand that English is not a phonetic language. So we often do not
say a word the same way it is spelled
2) What is the definition of the silent letter?
Answer :
Silent letter is a letter in a word, but it is neither audible nor silent when speak it.
Then, does not correspond to any sound in the word’s pronunciation. And, letter
that is usually left unpronounced. For example such as the t in listen, the g in design
and the c in scissors

GAL : I want to show you something.
EDNA : I know, but what is it?
GAL : A farm. It’s just down this road a way. It’s a small place, but at least it would
be our own.
EDNA : A farm! How we can we afford buy a farm?
GAL : It isn’t very large, only forty acres. We wouldn’t have to pay very much right
now.
EDNA : Is there a house on the place?
GAL : A small one, two bedrooms. It needs to be fixed up a little.
EDNA : Is there enough space for a kitchen garden?
GAL : There’s about half an acre around the house. That’s plenty of space.
EDNA : Then we could grow our own fresh vegetables, and maybe keep a few
chickens, couldn’t we?
GAL : We can probably grow a lot of our own food.
EDNA : What are you thinking about growing, if we do take this place?
GAL : Well, it really isn’t big enough for corn. I thought we might try to raise a crop
of potatoes.
EDNA : Potatoes? They’re a lot of work!
GAL : Were used to hard work, aren’t we?
EDNA : But the money? Do we have enough to get started? It seems like a dream!

few dollars down on a tractor too.
