6 manner. A skit is a comic sketch included in a dramatic

7 performance, while sharing relevant information and connecting

8 information through personal experience.

1 RADIO TEACHER: Today, we are going to read together and

2 understand the poem under “What’s New” on page 2 of your

3 module titled “My Family Is a Worker”. Take note of the

4 underlined words. Are you ready? (PAUSE) Very good!

5 (READ THE POEM )

6 My Family Is A Worker (PAUSE)

7 My father is a firefighter,

8 Uncle Sam is a police officer,

9 Tito John is a soldier,

10 They protect people who are in danger.

11 Grandpa George was a farmer.

12 He was also an expert with agriculture.

13 Grandma Gina was a lawyer.

14 She also works as a professor.

15 Tita Lylia is a doctor,

16 Aunt Becky is an engineer,

17 My mother is a teacher,

18 And I want to be like her.

19 They were all hard worker,

20 They were smart and dedicated.

2 So that someday I will become a teacher.

6 RADIO TEACHER: In the poem we read, what are the underlined

7 words? (PAUSE) Very good?

8 The underlined words in the poem are , am, is, was, are and

9 were. Now, what do you call these words ? ( PAUSE ) Very Good!

10 These words are called Be- Verbs. Be- Verbs indicate a state of

11 being or existence. These verbs do not show an action. They don’t

12 give any meaning but they are used to describe a subject. Be-

13 verbs used for singular subjects are am, is, and was. for

14 example:

15 I am a boy. The Be- Verb am is used because the subject is I

16 which is a singular pronoun .

17 She is a girl. The Be- Verb is, is used because the subject is

18 She, which is singular pronoun.

1 He was jailed. The Be- Verb was , is used because the subject is

2 He , which is a singular pronoun, and the action word jailed

3 is in the Past Tense.

4 Be –verbs used for plural subjects are , are and were. For

5 example:

6 They are basketball players. The Be- Verb are, is used because

7 the subject is They , which is a plural pronoun.

8 The players were exhausted. In this sentence , the Be- Verb

9 were- is used because the subject players is plural and the

10 action word exhausted, in is the Past Tense. ( PAUSE )

11 Always remember ,that the singular Be- Verbs is and am , are

12 used for sentences in the Present Tense while was is used for

13 sentences in the Past Tense. The Be- Verb are , is plural in

14 form and is used for sentences in the Present Tense . The Be-

15 Verb were, is also plural in form and is used for sentences in the

16 Past Tense . PAUSE )

2 sentences in the Present Tense while was is used for sentences

3 in the Past tense.
