25And today we will learn about Simple Present Tense of the Verb. See to it that the module you
26are holding is Quarter 2– Module 4.

291. identify simple present tense in simple form and s-form; 2. use verbs in simple present tense
30(EN3G-IIe-f-3.2.1.1); and 3. write simple sentences using verbs in simple present tense. Having
31this lesson is essential because it help us to know what words or tense of the verb we must to use
32in constructing sentences. We must keep in mind that simple present tense of the verb shows
33actions being done in the present time and our subject should always agree with our verb.

40something that happened some time ago. This is also called past tense.

11At this time, let us study more about Simple Present Tense of the Verb. So, lend me your ears

13Simple present tense indicates present time. It shows present action, a permanent condition,
14repeated or habitual action, and facts or general truth.
15Examples:
16The frogs and lizards eat insects.
17The bat hunts at night.
18When the subject of the sentence is in the third person singular, the verb ends with –s; if it is
19plural, use the base form of the verb.
20Examples:
21He speaks very fast.
22Subject “he” – singular verb “speaks” – singular
23She cooks delicious food.
24Subject “she” – singular verb “cooks” – singular
25They read the story silently.

31Simple present tense verbs have a special form for the third person singular called the s-form.
32Singular means one and plural means more than one. The person is used to show who or what

2person and second person both singular and plural use the simple form of the verb. The third
3person plural uses the simple form as well. However, the third person singular uses the s-form of
4the verb.
