1 HOST: “You can learn something new every day if you really listen”(PAUSE). Again, our
2 lesson for today is Presenting a Coherent, Comprehensive Report

3 on Differing Viewpoint On an Issue. Say it again,(PAUSE).That’s great!

4 But before anything else, Can you still recall what is a coherent and comprehensive report?

5 If you say it is a formal report of information of particular issue or topic. That’s correct, Good

6 job, kids! Next how about viewpoint? Perfect! Viewpoint means -the way a person thinks about

7 things in general or a particular issue or topic. You got it right! Lastly, what do you mean by

8 differing viewpoint? It is a difference of one’s opinion or disagreement about a certain issue,

9 topic or subject matter. Absolutely, that’s correct! You learned a lot from the topic discussed

10 from our previous lesson. Good job, kids! I guess you are now ready to proceed with our next

11 lesson in the Third Quarter.

12 HOST: To discuss our lesson for today, we shall have our radio teacher from Magugpo Pilot

1 expected to make a coherent, comprehensive report on differing viewpoint on an issue.

2 BIZ: MSC UP AND UNDER

3 RADIO TEACHER: To start with our lesson today, open your module and turn to page 5. Are you

4 there already? Good! Here’s how to make or compose a coherent, comprehensive report on

5 differing viewpoints on an issue or topic. First, the report must have a single generalization that

6 serves as focus of attention, that is, a topic sentence. Second, a writer must control the content of

7 every other sentence in the report’s body such that: (a) it contains more specific information than

8 the topic sentence; and, (b) it maintains the same focus of attention as the topic sentence. Did you

9 get it? Good job kids! And to achieve coherence in writing a report we have to follow several

10 methods. First, using repetition to link ideas, sentences, and paragraphs. And these repeating

11 key words or phrases helps connect and focus ideas throughout the report. Second, Using

12 transitional expressions to link ideas, sentences, and paragraphs. These transitional expressions,

13 such as: however, because, therefore, and in addition are used to establish relationships between

14 ideas, sentences and paragraphs. They serve as signals to let the reader know the previous idea,

15 sentence, or paragraph is connected to what it follows. Third, using pronouns to link sentences,

16 these pronouns are used to link or connect sentences by referring to preceding nouns and

17 pronouns. And fourth, using synonyms to link ideas and create variety. Synonyms are words

18 that have the same meaning as another word. They provide alternative word and choices that

1 can add variety to the report and can help eliminate unnecessary repetition. Lastly, using
2 parallel structures to link ideas, sentences, and paragraphs. Again, what are the methods

3 used in achieving coherence in writing a report?(PAUSE) Amazing! You are correct!

4 BIZ: MSC UP AND UNDER

5 RADIO TEACHER: How about in making a report? All you have to do is , you must follow

6 this simple format. First and foremost your report must have an introduction. This part of

7 the report introduces or gives a brief explanation about the issue or topic. This is where

8 you express your viewpoint. Next, Body of the paragraph, this part of the report explains

9 and gives specific information about the issue or topic. It discusses your opinion or

10 viewpoint about the issue, you may agree or disagree and consists of one (1) or more

11 paragraphs. And lastly, the Conclusion - it is the last part of the paragraph of the report

12 where it gives the reader a final and interesting point to think or ponder about the issue

13 or topic. It is usually starts with adverbial conjunctions such as: in conclusion, therefore,

14 as expressed, finally, lastly, as a result, in general and to sum up. Kids its easy, right! But

15 you need more practice to make a comprehensive report. (PAUSE) It takes time to acquire

16 skills in organizing ideas and writing a simple paragraph but if you have the will , you

17 can do it. A saying that goes, “If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you

18 are determined to learn no one can stop you”. Anonymous

6 make a coherent report. Use letters A to J in answering the activity. Are you ready, kids? Great!

4 of every other sentence in the report’s body such that: (a) it contains more specific information

5 than the topic sentence; and, (b) it maintains the same focus of attention as the topic sentence.

6 You go it right! Good job kids!

7 HOST: Can you think of 5 methods used to achieve coherence?(PAUSE) (1)Using repetition to

5 RADIO TEACHER: Let’s us read the selection on page 14 Activity 3. The world has become

6 smaller because of the internet. Now, anyone can communicate with our loved-ones even if

7 they’re oceans away. The days of letter writing are gone where we had to wait for weeks to get a

8 reply. Everything is instant now. Even though telephones allowed us to do that, but the cost was

9 too high. The common man could not afford to call people overseas because of the costs.

10 However, the internet changed that. Communicating with people both near and far is now easy

11 and affordable. We can send emails and chat with them through an instant messaging apps. We

12 may also do video call which allows us to see them clearly though we’re miles away.
Furthermore,
13
we can now get instant news updates from all over the continents. The moment anything takes
14
place anywhere, we get to know about it. In addition, we are informed about the natural
15
calamities within the correct time. Thus, we see how the internet has evolved and made our
16 lives

17 easy in various ways. We can connect with our loved ones easily and get access to unlimited

18 communication instantly.

1 RADIO TEACHER: Now, let us answer Let Us Assess Activity Number 3. Read the selection
2 carefully. And answer the following questions in your notebook: 1. What is the selection all

3 about? Great! Based on the selection, The way we communicate thru the use of the internet. 2.

4 How does the internet help in communicating? Amazing! It helps in communicating through

5 video call, private message, chat and electronic mails. 3. If you are to choose-would you prefer

6 letter-writing way of communication or thru internet? (PAUSE)You may have a varied answers

7 on this question. It’s reality that most of us prefer communicating via internet, and nowadays

8 only few prefer letter-writing as a means of communicating someone. We have the same idea.

9 Great! 4. What do you think is the advantage and disadvantage in relying too much in the

10 internet in communicating? (PAUSE) Its benefit is communication is fast and easy however, its

11 drawback is that physical conversation between family members is rarely observed since

12 members of the family are glued to their gadgets, preventing emotional connection between

13 family members. Have you observed it at home, kids? Always bear in mind that we should

14 spend quality time with our loved ones. Your answers are all correct. 5. What is your viewpoint

15 about this statement, “The world has become smaller because of the internet”. (PAUSE) Instant
