23BROADCASTER: Thank you so much Sir Davy. And hello to our dear listeners and viewers,
24especially the Grade 3 learners. Welcome to TeleRadyo Eskwela Tara Na! I am your English
25teacher, Teacher Ronelyn. We are very glad because despite the pandemic, we can continue
26learning through our TeleRadyo Eskwela. Towards the end of our episode, we are supposed to
27read simple sentences and stories and note details about the story character. It is very important
28that we will be able to learn these things to relate the different characters in the story to our life’s
29experiences.
30BIZ: MSC UP AND UNDER
31BROADCASTER: But before proceeding to our new lesson, let us have a quick recap of our
32previous discussion. Can you still remember our last topic in English? Yes, it was about Picture
33Talk. Let us read the given words. Write… Walk… Play… Now using these words, create a
34sentence that describes the pictures. Write your answers in your notebook. In the first picture,
35there is a cat on the box. Choose one word to write a sentence about the picture. Next picture,
36there is a boy with a pen and notebook. Choose one word to create a sentence describing the
37picture. Last picture, there is a girl wearing a boots with an umbrella. Choose one word to write a
38sentence about the picture. This time, let us look into your sentences. In the first picture, what
39word best describes the picture? Yes, it is PLAY. We can say that The Cat plays inside the box.
40Another picture, there is a boy with a pen and notebook. What word best describes the picture.
41Yes, write. We can say that the boy writes in his notebook. And the last picture, there is a girl
42wearing boots with an umbrella. What word did you use to create a sentence? Yes, walk is

1
1correct. We can say the girl walks with her umbrella. Very good kids. Let us read altogether your
2sentences. Now, we learn that to describes one’s drawing or picture, you must consider the
3number, size, shape, age, color and opinion. And always remember that a sentence expresses a
4complete thought. It begins with a capital letter. It ends with a period (.), or a question mark (?),
5or an exclamation point (!). Good job kids. You are now ready for our next lesson.

7BROADCASTER: May I ask you, do you have a favorite story? Do you find the characters who
8can connect to your life’s experience? Today, let’s find out how these characters affect your
9personality. In our new lesson, Tell Me More About The Story Character. Now, are you excited
10to read a story? Wow. That’s good to hear. We will be reading about The Blind Black Carabao.
11Once upon a time, there was a blind black carabao who lived in a rice field. His friends were a
12healthy cat, a rich dog, and a selfish goat. One day, the blind black carabao found a sack of rice.
13He had an idea of saving it. He then asked his friends, “Who will help me pick the sack?” “Not
14me,” purred the healthy cat. “Oh no, not me,” barked the rich dog. “Not even me,” shouted the
15selfish goat. “Then I will,” said the blind black carabao. So, he carried the sack of rice by
16himself.
17When the storm came to their place, the blind black carabao asked his friends, “Who will help
18me carry the sack?” Nobody answered him. A healthy cat returned to her chair, a rich dog hid
19in his house and a selfish goat ran in a distant place. “Then I will,” said the blind black
20carabao. So, he carried the sack of rice by himself. When the storm ends, all of them were very
21hungry. The tired blind black carabao called and asked his friends again, “Who will help me eat
22the rice?” “I will,” purred the healthy cat. “I will,” barked the rich dog. “I will,” shouted the
23selfish goat.
24“No!” said the blind black carabao. “I will,” Then he began to eat the rice. His friends were
25swallowing their saliva while looking at him eating the rice. He felt pity so he shared his food
26with them. “Thank you, carabao. Even though you are blind, you are so hardworking and
27generous,” said his friends. “Without you, we will all die with hunger,” barked the rich dog.
28“That is why you are the favorite animal of the Filipinos,” shouted the selfish goat. “Next time
29let us help carabao to find some food in order for us to live,” purred the healthy cat. “I know
30you can also do it, so let us help one another,” said the Carabao. The next week, a healthy cat
31found some fruit seeds. They all volunteered to plant. When days passed fast, they happily
32harvested and shared the bounties of their harvests. Whoa, what a great story. Did you find the
33story interesting too, kids? Very good.
34BIZ: MSC UP AND UNDER
35This time, let us try to answer some questions about the story. Are you ready? Let’s begin. First
36question, what did the carabao wants to do with the sack of rice? ….. Yes, it is. The carabao
37wants to save a sack of rice. Very good. Second question, which animals did he ask to help him
38pick and carry the sack of rice? Let’s name them. ….. Yes, the animals he asked to help him pick

2
1and carry the sack of rice were the healthy cat, rich dog and selfish goat. That is right kids. Third
2question, what did each animal say? ….. Yes, it is. Each animal says, “Not me.” Very good.
3Fourth question, what did the blind black carabao feel? ….. Absolutely right, the blind black
4carabao feels tired and hungry. And the last question is if you were to choose among the
5characters in the story, who would you like to be? Why? That is amazing kids, you truly
6understand our story. Now, characters are the people or animals in a story. These are the actors in
7the story. The main character is the character who is the focus in the story. Now, can you name
8the characters in the story of The Blind Black Carabao? In the story, the characters are the blind
9black carabao, rich dog, healthy cat, and selfish goat. They have their own characteristics and
10attitude. Now children, for us to understand more about the character and attitude, we need to
11note the details in the story. When we say noting details, this is a comprehension skill that
12involves choosing out a text from the story read. It is a piece of information like text or picture to
13fully understand the story. Now, the question is, how do we note details regarding the character
14in the story? First, always read the story with full understanding and internalize the text. Second,
15write down notes or highlight texts.

17This time, are you ready now for our activity? Of course, yes. I hope you can still recall the
18characters in the story of “The Blind Black Carabao”. Choose one of the characters in the story
19and complete its character profile. The character profile looks like this. It has three overlapping
20circles. Color the first small circle blue and then draw the character inside. On the second circle,
21color it with green and write the name of the character inside. And on the outermost circle, write
22the sentences: I am __________________. I like to __________________. I am
23_________________. I’ll give you time to draw the character profile and answer it on your
24notebook. You may start now. On the first circle….. (10 seconds interval), on the second
25circle….. (10 seconds interval), and on the last circle….. (10 seconds interval). Are you done
26now? Yes. Let us try to have an example on your character profile. Let me see if we chose the
27same character. On the first circle is a picture of the carabao. On the second picture, I wrote the
28name of the character which is the blind black carabao. And on the third circle, I wrote the
29sentences, I am the blind black carabao. I like to give foods to my friends. I am happy. Do we
30have the same example children? Yes? Wow. That’s great to hear.
31Always remember, to easily identify the characters in the story is to read and understand the
32whole story and by looking at the illustrations of the story. You are now ready to answer our next
33activity.
34BIZ: MSC UP AND UNDER
35For today’s assessment, we are going to read another story and answer some questions. Are you
36ready? Yes, of course. But first, let us read together the following questions. First, who is the
37character in the story? Second, why is he sad? And third, if you have the chance to write an
38ending of the story, what would you like to write? Let us read the story to answer these

3
1questions. Mike has a kite and a bike. He rides on his bike to the playground. He flies his kite.
2One day, the kite fell on the playground. Mike was sad. He had no more kite. Let us read the
3story one more time. Now, I’ll give you time to answer the three questions about the story. First
4question, …..(10 seconds interval). Second question, …..(10 seconds interval). And third
5question, …..(10 seconds interval). Are you done answering, children? Great. Let us check your
6answers. First, who is the character in the story? The character in the story is Mike. Very good.
7Next question, why is he sad? He is sad because his kite fell on the playground and he has no
8more kite. Nice one kids. And for the last question, if you have the chance to write an ending of
9the story, what would you like to write? Mike asks help to his friend to make another kite. Good
10job kids. Did you got a perfect score? If yes, congratulations, you are such a remarkable student.
