DESIGN BASIS FOR M-35 SLUDGE DEWATERING SYSTEM

1. Total Flow :
a. Volumetric flow rate : 2000 m3/d
b. Mass flow rate : 30000 kg/d
2. The flow will be split into two streams Treatment system to be as follows
a. Stream no-1
i. Volumetric flow rate : 1000 m3/d
ii. Mass flow rate : 15000 kg/d
iii. Sludge will be pumped directly to the sludge drying beds as per the
existing scheme , without any dewatering in between.
1. No of beds to be used : 18 nos
2. Filtrate from the SDB’s will follow the same as route as is
existing
b. Stream No -2
i. Volumetric flow rate : 1000 m3/d
ii. Mass flow rate : 15000 kg/d
iii. Inlet % : 1 to 1.5 %
iv. Volatile solids content : 70 to 75 %
v. Expected outlet after the decanter : 20 to 22 %
vi. A tapping will be taken on the existing sludge line (from WAS pumps
to sludge drying beds) to feed the Decanter Centrifuges. a flow meter
with totalizer will be installed on this line to measure the flow to
Decanter Centrifuges .The duty conditions for Decanter centrifuges
are
1. Hours of operations : 12 hours
2. No of decanter centrifuges : 2 ( 1Duty + 1 stand by)
3. Operation : PLC operated
4. Polymer dosing system to be used with duty stand by polymer
feed pumps and duty standby polymer storage tanks ( 7 days
capacity )
5. No of beds to be used to receive dewatered sludge : 2 nos
6. Filtrate from the SDB’s will follow the same as route as is
existing.
7. Decanted liquor will flow into the filtrate pipes for the sludge
drying beds. The entry connection to existing filtrate collection
system to be suitable selected.
8. Decanters will be located inside a building. The building will
be as close as possible to the sludge drying beds area to reduce
transportation distances. The building should be planned such a
way that a odor control system could be installed at a later
stage if the need arises.
9. Dewatered sludge will be collected and transported outside the
building using belt conveyor and Screw conveyor. The
dewatered sludge will be discharged in a small collection area.
In order that the sludge is collected in uniform heap in the
collection area , the screw conveyor will be sloped and
swiveling type . From this area sludge will carried by Bobcat to
be spread on 2 drying beds.

3. Vendor shall study the system in detail and quote accordingly. The scope of supply
shall include but not limited to ( These are guidelines only and the vendor to decide
on his own system but with minimum of the following )
a. Decanter Centrifuges : 1 d + 1 stand by complete with
i. Base Frame
ii. Anti vibration pads/dampeners , Vibration monitoring system
iii. Complete with control system with set points vs actual value
comparison operating the parameters
b. Polymer dosing system:
i. Polymer preparation tank and Polymer dilution tank : 1d + 1stand by
complete with mixers and level probes, inspection covers,
ii. Concentrate polymer pump : 1 duty + 1 stand by
iii. Ready to use Diluted Polymer dosing pumps : 1duty + 1standby
capable of suction from either of the above tanks
iv. VFD’s as necessary for automatic control of the plant
c. Belt conveyor : Horizontal belt conveyor of suitable length
d. Screw conveyor: To carry dewatered sludge to collection area. Screw
conveyor shall be sloped, swiveling shaft less type
e. Piping and valves : Complete piping system in order to make the system a
workable one along with required valves
f. PLC: PLC based mimic panel for the control of the dewatering system to
make it a efficient and operator friendly system.
g. Electrical Cabling :Complete Electrical cabling as deemed necessary .
h. Equipment foundation : Vendor will consider the cost for foundation for
various equipment as deemed necessary
i. Erection and Commissioning: Vendor will bring his own l tools and tackles
necessary for the erection and commissioning of the equipments.
j. General : Vendor upon award , shall provide the following
i. O&M Manuals : Three sets of O&M manuals of the system outlining
the features with maintenance schedules for the various equipments
offered
ii. Spare parts : List of recommended spare parts , their prices and
delivery time
iii. Training programme : Vendor shall train the clients staff to operate
the plant. The training shall be for at least 3 days .
k. Odor control system : Vendor to quote separately for the odor control
system.
