Office Activities
The past eight weeks of my internship
experience have been amazing. I have gotten to
participate in so many fun and exciting
activities. These activities include preparing
materials for future programs. I printed out and
put together the folders that we would give out
to the youth. Other activities include attending
camps, trainings, and projects. One of my
favorite projects was designing an SFP packet
because I got to research and come up with
conversation topics that encourage meaningful
conversations.
Summer Leadership Institute
Summer Leadership Institute is a free summer program
offered by AZYP to teach youth (ages 11 - 17) the
qualities of a successful leader. This program is only 5
days where the participants learn about effective
communication, resisting peer pressure, building self-
esteem, and building healthy relationships. The youth
also participated in a community service activity.
Throughout these camps, I facilitated a couple lessons
and helped out with facilitating them. I also encouraged
the youth to participate with the material.
Youth Mental Health first aid training
One of the most beneficial activities I did throughout my internship
was the Youth Mental Health first aid training. This training's goal is
to teach peers, healthcare workers, school staff, and family members
how to help their adolescents through a mental health crisis.
Throughout the training, the instructor would give us scenarios
where we were to come up with an action plan using the acronym
ALGEE. This acronym symbolizes the 5-step action plan taught in the
training. The topics we touched on during training included eating
disorders, depression, anxiety, and substance misuse. Overall, this
training is very beneficial because of the nature of this internship.
We are interacting with youth regularly.
Stronger Families Project Training

The Stronger Families Project is a program

whose goal is to strengthen relations between
family members. This goal is accomplished by
providing these families a safe environment
with dinner to encourage conversation topics
that may be too hard to have during regular
dinner. Throughout this training, I learned about
the curriculum and how it is evidenced-based. I
also practiced facilitating a lesson to get used to
the material. Some of the topics covered in the
prgram are peer pressure resistance skills and
effective communication skills.
Conclusion

I have learned so much throughout my

internship journey. The main three things
I have learned are the importance of
creating an environment where there is
no judgment, the importance of
effective communication, and the
importance of community outreach.
