Course Objectives:
The objective of the course is to:
 familiarize the learners with the basics of ecology, the ecological processes & the
importance of ecology in day to day life.
 discuss the basics of Ecosystem and structure of Ecosystem
 provide an insight into Biodiversity at Global, national and Local level
 enhance the knowledge of the learners about the different types of pollution, their
origin and the possible ways to overcome them
 explore the different resources of the Earth, which form the base of tourism
attraction at any destination

Learning Outcome:
By the end of this course, learners would be able to:

 Understand  the basics of ecology,the ecological processes & the importance of


ecology in day to day life.
 Understand the basics of Ecosystem and structure of Ecosystem.
 Understand Biodiversity at Global, national and Local level.
 Explain the different types of pollution, their origin and the possible ways to
overcome them.
 Understand  the different resources of the earth, which form the base of tourism
attraction at any destination.

The Ecological Concepts, Ecosystems and their functioning, The Biosphere and its
Functioning, Factors influencing Population Growth, Carrying Capacity, Limiting factors
and their operation, Interactions of factors, Diversity versus Simplicity, Biotic succession
and land rehabilitation, Resilience of Populations and Communities, Ecological
Balances and Survival Thresholds, Preservation of Environmental Quality, Ecosystem
degradation
 
BLOCK II: Structure and Functions of an Ecosystem
Structural and Functional Aspects of the Ecosystem, Producers, Consumers and
Decomposers, Energy flow in the Ecosystem, Food Chain Food web and Ecological
Pyramids, Ecosystem goods and services, Forest ecosystem, The Grassland
ecosystems, The Desert Ecosystem, The Aquatic ecosystems, The Pond ecosystem,
