Cherrapunji
Cherrapunji is regarded as one of the wettest places on earth as the highest
rainfall is foreseen during the year. Tourists from around the world come here to
see the Dain-Thlen, Kynrem, and Nohkalikai waterfalls that are known as the
popular waterfalls of Cherrapunji. The town encompasses some of the
best waterfalls in Meghalaya.Major attractions here are Living-Root bridges,
Mawsmai cave, Seven sisters falls, Eco-park and a garden of caves
Elephant Falls, the beauty of Meghalaya, has the elephant-like stone at its foot.

The majestic Elephant falls were alluded to as ‘Ka Kshaid Lai Patang
Khohsiew’ by the nearby Khasi individuals, which signifies ‘The Three Step
Waterfalls’, as these falls comprise of three wonderful falls in progression. The
first of the three waterfalls are tucked between the thick trees and are wide.
Umiam Lake (locally known as Dam sait) is a reservoir in the hills 15 km
(9.3 mi) north of Shillong in the state of Meghalaya, India. It was created by
damming the Umiam River in the early 1960s. The principal catchment area of
the lake and dam is spread over 225 square km. The lake serves as a major
tourist attraction for the state of Meghalaya. It is also a popular destination for
water sport and adventure facilities. Tourists visit this spot for kayaking, water
cycling, scooting, and boating.
The Dawki River is the river clear as crystal where one could also
experience twittering birds and fluttering butterflies with colourful stones
in the river. It has become the most visited tourist place as people from all
over the world visits the Dawki River to enjoy and experience the
heavenly beauty of nature. The water in the Dawki River is so clear and
transparent that the surface looks like crystal glass making the fishes,
snakes inside the river visible and the boats in the river seems to float on
the water and in the air sometimes creates an illusion.
Created by the people of the Khasi tribe, these roots grow from the
ancient rubber trees, seen only in the northeast region. The most
popular root bridge, a double-decker living-root bridge, it is 3 km
long and begins from Village Tyrna Village. The bridge stands at a
height of 2400 feet. Reaching the upper bridge, which is 20 meter
long is a tough but a worth -it task. Please take note that one needs to
be physically fit to reach the upper bridge.
Laitlum Canyons
Perched on the East Khasi Hills, Laitlum Canyons is a less explored but one of
the most picturesque tourist and trekking destinations in Shillong. The canyons
are located about 21 Kms south of Shillong which is about a half-hour drive
away. Literally, translating to 'End of hills', this exotic viewing site offers the
best panoramic views of the whole of Meghalaya embraced by the majestic hills
and valleys. The spot is secluded and serene, ideal for quiet and peaceful
