Risk Assessment
Familial Obligations
Work ahead, so as to not fall behind for familial obligations such as: child’s extracurricular
activities, regularly scheduled doctor’s appointments, school functions, birthday parties, child’s
tantrums, vet appointments, etc.
Pre-planned Vacation
Work ahead or complete your assignments on vacation.
Car towed
Work ahead so that this inconvenience does not impede turning assignments in on-time.
Exhaustion
Work ahead or work through the exhaustion. Everybody gets tired, over-worked, and
overwhelmed, but there is always time to sleep later.
Mental Lapse
Set calendar reminders with multiple notifications. This will help you to remember when
assignments are due and remind you to check to see if you have previously turned them in.
Contingency Planning
Work
Unexpected work trips or emergency assignments should be planned for. They have happened in
the past and most likely will happen again; either work ahead or work on assignments during the
intermittent breaks that you may have.
Family Emergency
Nobody can plan for an emergency room visit or a death in the family, but again working ahead
will ensure that you have a cushion to deal with these emotional and trying times.
Personal Illness
Depending on the illness you can work through it, but if you have a severe enough illness that
prevents you from working on assignments, you should have enough padded time built in to ensure
that you do not fall behind.
Hurricane
Living on the Gulf Coast during August and September, hurricanes are always a potential issue.
You can be home without utilities before, during, or after the storm, you can evacuate and be on the
road for exorbitant amounts of time, or you can be dealing with extremely scared pets and family
members before, during, or after the storm. It is always best to work ahead during these time frames
in order to give yourself a little extra time to complete future assignments.
Internet Outage
Internet service interruptions can be an extreme hassle; from children constantly telling you “I’m
bored,” to the inability to turn connect to the portal to turn in your assignments. It is always best to
have a backup plan in case this happens, such as mobile hotspot across your cellular network, work
Wi-Fi, or even the public library.

Power Outage
These can occur at ANY time and for ANY reason. Whether it be a brown-out during a heat
wave, a drunk driver smashing into a utility pole, or just an overloaded/blown transformer. I have a
laptop and have multiple alternatives for charging it; battery packs, 110v outlet in my vehicle, charge
at work, or go to a retail establishment that has not been impacted by the power outage.
Housing Disaster (Fire, Flood, Wind, Etc.)
Nothing can take your mind off of current responsibilities like a housing disaster. Whether you
come home to a flooded house from a broken plumbing fixture, a fire that consumed everything, or
just an extreme wind storm that caused existential roof damage that may have destroyed internal
belongings. Again, you should always work ahead to ensure that you have ample time to complete
future assignments after you address the immediate issues, but I also have multiple redundancies for
my work; everything that I do on my laptop is backed up on Google Docs and Microsoft One Drive.
Having the multiple redundancies also ensures that I can obtain my assignments even if one of the
sites is down.
Burglary
You can have the best security system in the world (which you probably don’t) and if an
experienced enough burglar wants to get inside and steal your belongings, it’s going to happen.
Despite having multiple weapons and dogs in the home, should you be there when it occurs, or an
alarm system and video cameras for when you are not. Having multiple redundancies for your
assignments and a backup laptop, such as one from work, ensure that I will be able to remain
connected and turn in my assignments on time.
Pandemic
As with previously mentioned posts, if you work ahead then this should minimize the impact of a
pandemic. Whether you get sick personally, have a family member fall ill, or just have to quarantine
for days, weeks, or months, as long as you have your data backed up, you will be able to continue
your project from wherever you are.
Vehicle Theft
Should your computer equipment be in the vehicle or just the hours, days, weeks, and months of
dealing with the police departments and insurance companies dealing with the auto theft alone, it
definitely pays to work ahead. Should you computer equipment be in the vehicle, having cloud
backups of your work will definitely pay off in dividends.
Vehicle Accident
One can never plan on a vehicle accident and due to the severity of the impact and potential
sustained injuries, a PM should work ahead to ensure staying on track in case of this contingency.
Should the accident be severe enough, you may have to enlist help to alleviate the problem; whether
it be to transcribe data for you or make arrangements for you to resume the project at a future date.

Lessons Learned
What went Right?
Comprehension of the course material is indicated at a satisfactory level; through both peer and
Client feedback.
Utilization of resources to fulfill Quality Metrics, e.g. Client, husband, and peers for expertise in
areas where I was lacking.
Expectations of shareholders, i.e. family, was discussed, agreed upon, and adhered to throughout
the duration of the project.
What went Wrong?
Risks and Contingency plans not adequately created initially, nor enacted soon enough.
Time allocation not accurate the majority of the time.
Did not fully read the Rubric for all tasks and subtasks.
Sarcasm and humor, while they can be utilized to lessen tensions and alleviate stress during
difficult tasks, more care needs to be addressed when utilizing these tactics; especially with
whom they are utilized.
Planned Corrective Actions
In the beginning of Project ‘OGL-320 (Fall 2020-A)’, tasks and subtasks were less difficult and
less time consuming, therefore during these earlier periods of future projects, I need to focus
more efforts on getting ahead of schedule to compensate for the Risks and Contingencies.
Become more realistic regarding time allocation. There were way too many instances that tasks
and subtasks took 0.75 Person-hour longer, or more, than originally anticipated. In some
instances, the time was massively over original assumptions.
Utilization of humor and sarcasm needs to be more carefully monitored and more care needs to
be placed on the audience.
