PROJECT TITLE

- “Developing/increasing numeracy skills using interactive play-based learning

experience”

II. PROPOSED LOCATION

- Dapdap Elementary School located at Dapdap, Uson, Masbate

III. RATIONALE/OBJECTIVE

Education is an important aspect in one’s life. It is a key to success and opens many

opportunities to everyone. Through education, a person’s mind is illuminated and

helps young ones plan for their future career. Having access to education helps people

think, feel, and react properly. In this way, it contributes to their success and

improves, not only their personal gratification, but also the betterment of their

community.

Among the basic fundamentals of education is to acquire numeracy skill because

mathematics is an important part of human thought and logic. Possessing

mathematical literacy helps one to have a better problem-solving skill. This analytical

thinking is integral into understanding the world since it provides mental discipline

and encourages logical reasoning. Gaining this skill likewise helps to understand

other school subjects.

Traditionally, a child can understand the fundamentals of mathematics through a

classroom or face-to-face instruction. Unfortunately, this teaching set up has been

drastically altered by the pandemic because in the new normal, alternative ways have

been adopted to continue the learning process while preventing the spread of the

deadly virus.

One effective way in impressing mathematical knowledge amidst this crisis is

through an interactive play-based learning environment. After all, children learn best

through first-hand experiences and play motivates children’s development of various

skills such as communication, concentration, and problem solving. This method

encourages children to read, talk, write, and think because they build their own

curiosity and allows them to experiment, question, discover, and solve problems.

Aside from that, math games can provide the opportunity to make the lesson more fun

and interesting to the students.

IV. BENEFICIARIES

The following stakeholders will certainly benefit from the interactive play-based

learning environment:

a. The learners;

b. The parents; and

c. The teachers

V. TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
Most parents complain that their children would hardly understand Mathematics

among all other subjects due to its complexities. With interactive play-based learning,

such complexity is simplified and lightened.

Math games provide opportunities to make the lessons more fun and interesting. The

students are likewise encouraged to remember the concepts. One way of

implementing this method is the use of manipulative tools, such as blocks, fruits, and

balls. Using these tools, the learners will effectively comprehend the basics of

addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

The teachers will provide these tools to learners wherein some figures are written.

There are also some equations that must be solved to accomplish the game. But

before letting the learners play, the mechanics will be discussed first to the parents so

that the latter will relay the same to their children. To allow parents fully understand

its concept, sample plays or demonstrations may be made.

The learners who just live in the same neighborhood may opt to play the games

among themselves so that they may learn and enjoy together. By playing the games

several times, the learners can somehow get acquainted to it and can familiarize the

basic concepts of mathematics.

The games will be developed through time depending on the progress that the

learners will achieve. The difficulty of the games that the learners will achieve

determines their comprehension of the lessons.
