Community Project of the Year

 Name of Project: Innovation and Technology Development Center

 Description of the project: This project was previously a brewery

but was closed many years ago and had to be repaired to be used

again. This historical building is reconstructed to be an

Innovation and Technology Development Center that will serve

university students and business pioneers. The project consists

of six main buildings and landscapes.

 Description: buildings with a special architectural style


The Greek businessman, Monsieur Theodore Kotsika, the
richest of the Greek community in Egypt at that time,
established a brewery in Bein El Sarayat in 1897, and his
monopoly on Saberto caused the flourishing of the liquor
industry, and initially carried the factory (the name of the Taj
factory).
The factory was nationalized in 1963 and its name was changed
to “Al-Ahram Beverages Company” and then factories for the
company were established in Obour City.
The brewery building remained; Abandoned and its ownership
transferred to Giza Governorate, the land, including the factory,
was allocated for use by Cairo University for a period of 25 years
in accordance with Resolution No. 116 of 2013.
In 2021, the President of Cairo University announced that a
cooperation protocol had been signed with the Ministry of
Communications and Information Technology to transform the
factory land into a center for creativity and entrepreneurship for
students of Cairo University and other Egyptian universities. The
university is in the service and advancement of society and
contributes to achieving the link between university education
and the needs of society and production.
The Center for Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship
aims to spread the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship
among Egyptian university students interested in creativity in
the field of information and communication technology and
aspiring to be entrepreneurs in the future by providing
entrepreneurship and innovation education programs in order to
build youth capacities.
The Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center
provides a common workspace for entrepreneurs in the field of
communications and information technology, investors, mobile
software developers, entrepreneurship coaches and mentors,
where it is possible to work from the center, establish various
partnerships, and attend training sessions and workshops
provided by the center to innovators and entrepreneurs.
The Center for Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship
offers an integrated incubator program to help entrepreneurs
transform their business plans and product models into
successful businesses.

The Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center helps start-


up companies and work teams working in the field of communications
and information technology to transform their business plans and initial
product models into successful businesses through an integrated set
of incubators available throughout the year.
The Arab Contractors Company - Palaces and Antiquities Maintenance
Department was assigned to restore and raise the efficiency of the
factory building, which is registered in the civil coordination records,
due to its long experience in the field of preserving historical and
heritage buildings.

This project is special because of the importance of this historical
building as well as the function that serves the society (training
and developing university students).
 What challenges were you faced with and how were these
overcome?
The project was fast track in addition to the difficulty in
construction as we had to deal with old, deteriorated structural
members and reuse them in the new building’s function.

This organization focuses on training and developing the
