MICE INDUSTRY MICE

is an acronym for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions. These are the different
types of events that MICE covers. By nature, MICE is tourism. When referring to structure
and objective, it is an event-organizing industry. Some people also refer to MICE as business
tourism or business events. The MICE industry refers to the business that involves
organizing, conducting, and attending business and leisure events. Other leisure events such
as festivals or concerts belong to a different category, but organizers make use of leisure
elements to engage attendees better. The MICE industry also includes taking care of travel
and tourism needs. It makes up a large part of global business travel as meetings, incentives,
conferences, and exhibitions invite and attract attendees from different parts of the country
and of the world.

NEED FOR CONVENTION CENTER

India is in a constant process of upgrading its mice facilities. As an emerging globalized

service industry, mice is especially valued by the national government for its high growth
potential, highly beneficial innovations, large opportunities for employment, large industry
associations and the efficient utilization of assets. The Indian government realizes the fact
that the long-term sustainability of the conference business can be ensured through building
an extensive network of allied infrastructure, which ranges from the availability of hotel
rooms, excellent connectivity to the venue, a well-developed transport net, work and other
tourist attractions. The government is providing financial support for developing
international convention centers and tourism-related infrastructure.
AIM

Punjab Infrastructure Development Authority (PIDB), the nodal agency of the Government
of Punjab for undertaking PPP projects, has been entrusted to carry out a transparent
competitive bid process for selection of Private Sector Player on behalf of GMA

OBJECTIVE

To provide capacity for hosting larger conventions/exhibitions currently untouched by

Indian convention centers due to capacity constraints.

The facilities will be at par with the best in the industry worldwide, in size and quality;
offering an efficient and quality setting for international as well as national meetings,
conferences, exhibitions and trade shows.

The size and diversity of the project, suggests that each area will have unique features that
define both, the challenges and the opportunities to stimulate investment and generate a
desirable level of success.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION

To evolve a design with forms and spaces with distinct architectural features focusing on
space utilization and functions. This project deals with a design which is well adoptable in
terms of typology, functions and climatic conditions.

In this thesis i will design the convention center in detail and blocking of other facilities like
exhibition halls, hotels, and commercial areas.

Description of the study

An intimate relationship with the environment is built into the human psyche. Historically,
nature, mountains, rivers, trees, the sun , the moon have always been honored in ancient
cultures. It’s only when we start moving away from our connection to nature and ourselves
that we begin polluting and destroying the environment. We need to revive these attitudes
that foster our connection with the nature for the benefits of humans and the external
environment.
