5th MUSICA SACRA NATIONAL CHORAL COMPETITION 2022


Theme: “Revitalizing the World through Marian Songs amidst
Pandemic and Global Chaos”

OBJECTIVES:

a. To give hope, peace, and love to all the people throughout the world who are suffering from pandemic
and global chaos through Marian songs.
b. To foster creativity in blending voices to produce elegant music.
c. To foster and promote a lifelong interest in music as a basic human experience.
d. To be able to encourage every choir member to showcase their talents and skills on stage.
d. To build strong camaraderie and friendships to all the participants.

GUIDELINES AND MECHANICS

1. The competition is open to all school, community, and church choirs in the Philippines.
2. Participating groups shall be comprised of at least 16 to 30 singers (excluding the conductor
and instrumentalists), and the age requirement shall be 12 years old and above.
3. The competing group shall submit accomplished registration form duly signed by their Choirmaster.
4. All participating groups must be fully vaccinated. Vaccination cards will be checked by the organizer in
charge upon arrival at the venue on the day of the competition.
5. Wear your face mask at all times, but you can take it off during your performance so you can sing
comfortably.
6. Each group shall perform two (2) songs:
a. Warm-up song: any Genre (in any dialect/language)
b. Contest Piece: any arrangement of Marian Song (in any dialect/language)
7. The contest piece must be sung a capella and in SATB/SSAA/TTBB.
8. The warm-up song will be sung a capella and/or with instruments.
9. Maximum performance duration per choir is twelve (12) minutes from the first note up to the end of the
2nd song including the entrance and exit. Point penalties shall be subtracted from a non-compliant
choir’s raw score per adjudicator as follows:
a. More than thirty (30) seconds over time allotted – 1 point
b. One (1) to two (2) minutes over time allotted – 2 points
c. More than two (2) minutes over time allotted – 3 points
10. Each choir will have a rehearsal including blocking, entrance, and exit at the venue in the morning of
the competition date. The order of the rehearsal and performance will be drawn by lots at 8:00 a.m.
11. The sound levels and microphone positions are not fixed and may be moved by the participants during
the rehearsal and performance.
12. All songs must be sung from memory throughout the performance. Only the conductor is allowed to use
music sheets.
13. The conductor is allowed to conduct only one (1) choral group in the competition proper.
14. The Grand Champion who won the previous 1 st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Musica Sacra are not allowed to join
again in this year’s competition.
15. Participating groups must wear appropriate costume or attire fit for the competition’s purpose.
16. Choreography and hand-held props are allowed but not required during the warm-up song. Choirs
should consider the judging criteria and microphone positions when including choreography into their
competition performance.
17. Additional guidelines will be provided as needed.
18. The organizers reserve the right to make any necessary changes to the guidelines if there is a need.
REGISTRATION

1. Participation in Musica Sacra V will be by registration with the submission of complete requirements
starting March 15, 2022. The deadline for submission is August 15, 2022.
2. Application forms, guidelines, and mechanics shall be provided by the organizers.
3. Competing groups shall submit music sheets to the organizers upon registration (5 copies per song &
put them in a folder).
4. The participating choirs will get free tickets worth Php 10,000 (100 Regular Tickets @Php 100 each).
5. All participating choirs are required to acquire a solidarity share in the amount of Php 3,000 pesos.

BOARD OF JUDGES

1. There will be a panel of judges consisting of six (6) credible persons who are related or not
related to the Diocese of Tarlac shall rate the contestants and determine the winners.
2. Judges decision shall be Final and Irrevocable.

DATE AND VENUE

The competition will be on any day in September 2022 at 6:00 P.M. and the venue will be at San
Sebastian Cathedral, Tarlac City. The competition's final date will be announced to you as soon as possible.

AWARDS

1. The winners will be announced after the results were tabulated, verified and reviewed by the board of
judges with the assistance of the Technical Staff in-charge of the competition.
2. The winners will receive Cash Prizes, Trophies and Certificates but for the non-winning
groups, they will be receiving Certificates of Participation.

PRIZES

Grand Prize: P 30,000.00 and a Trophy & Certificate


First Runner-up: P 20,000.00 and a Trophy & Certificate
Second Runner-up: P10,000.00 and a Trophy & Certificate

JUDGING

Determination of winners of the Musica Sacra V shall be based on the following criteria:

Tonal Quality, Harmony and Blending 40%


Musicality 30%
Interpretation 15%
Diction and Timing 10%
Costume and Stage Deportment 5%
TOTAL 100%
