CAUTION !!!
Please read carefully the following Operating Instructions before commissioning this
scale. By careful reading of these Operating Instructions you will avoid any possible
damage caused by incorrect operation. In case of any further questions, please contact
your scale supplier or regional sales office.

All indicators of electronic scales require a warm up period from a cold start to stabilise
the internal circuitry. It may happen, that the indicator will appear unstable at initial
switch-on or that the display shows a weight without a load on the scale.

After reaching the correct operating temperature after approx. 2-3 minutes, push ZERO
and the scale will fully stabilise ready for normal weighing.

After-Sales Service and Warranty

KPZ confirms, that any scale produced and supplied by KPZ is free from defect with
regard to material and workmanship. Any warranty claims are restricted to those
components of the units, which prove defective in material and workmanship under
standard and professional use and under correct maintenance conditions. The period of
warranty is 6 months after delivery to the purchaser, provided the note of defect from the
purchaser to KPZ is effected immediately, together with sufficient proof. The respective
component/unit must be returned to KPZ postage and freight prepaid, so that the
defective component/unit can be inspected by KPZ.

The warranty does not cover any damage resulting from excessive loading or other
incorrect use, from non-conformity with the operating Instructions or any accidental
damage to the units special equipment or other accessories, which have not been
installed by KPZ or by a person authorised by KPZ or to which any modifications have
been made to change the specified purpose of use.

This warranty is automatically invalidated, if any persons not authorised by KPZ has
carried out any modifications, interventions or other repairs etc. to the system.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Installation
Install scale in a dry, well-lit and vibration-free location. Use the bubble level and
adjusting legs, if supplied, to properly level the KPZ 2-02-4, before commencing the
operation of the KPZ 2-02-4. Strictly follow the safety instructions specified with regard
to the power supply.

Power Supply
Check that the voltage requirements for the scale or for the charging device/power pack
are met by the on-site power supply (230/240V). When disconnecting the device, always
remove at the plug, never remove by pulling on the power cable.
Always use original KPZ cable or KPZ power pack/charging device. The use of any
other device may cause considerable damage to the electronics.
If the charging device/power pack is damaged by accident or if any other defect exists,
please check the output. If the output is affected in any way, immediately order a new
KPZ cable or KPZ charging device/power pack. Any damage to the charging
device/power pack may result in a reduction or failure of the unit, resulting in most cases
in damage to the scale.

Avoid using the same power socket to connect other devices. Try to lay the cable, so
that it can not be stepped on or pulled.
If the scale is equipped with a rechargeable battery, it is recommended to fully charge
the battery after the installation and before the first start-up of the scale. Connect the
KPZ 2-02-4 to the on-site power source (230/240V) and fully recharge the rechargeable
battery, with the indicator switched off.
Always keep the rechargeable battery at a high charging level by recharging it as often
as possible (daily); this will prolong the service life of the battery.

Precaution Measures
Do not try to eliminate any faults or to carry out any repairs, which are not specified in
these Instructions.
Under no circumstances, open the housing of the scale, thus removing the protection of
the sensitive electronic components. This will immediately invalidate the warranty.

CAUTION !
Do not remove the platform from the scale. Any material falling into the gap between
scale housing and platform support may affect the performance of the weighing sensor
and / or the internal electronics.

Avoid any Contact with Liquids

Only clean the scale as described in these operating Instructions. If any water or other
liquid penetrates into the housing, remove the mains plug and have unit checked by
qualified maintenance staff before re-commencing operation.

page 6
Optimum Operating Conditions
In order to achieve the most accurate results from your weighing
scale the unit should be used at location having the following conditions:
The base support must be level and horizontal
The base support should be stable and not be subjected to vibrations
Avoid any continuous, direct sunlight
Do not use in areas where corrosion gasses are present
Ensure a dust-free environment if possible
Ambient temperature –10°C to 40°C
Relative air humidity 40 to 70% (do not install close to air humidifiers!)
Do not use in the proximity of other electronic devices to avoid any electrical interference
Do not install close to heating units and outlet openings of air-conditioning units to avoid
any large temperature variations around the scale.

Instructions to Avoid Damage

The KPZ scale is a high-quality accurate scale. Thus, avoid any extreme applications.
When cleaning the unit, make sure, that water cannot penetrate into the electronic
housing.
This scale should not be subjected to extreme temperature influences below minus 10°C
or above plus 40°C. The load cell and also the scale may be damaged, if any impact,
overload or excessive point loads are exerted onto the scale. Contact KPZ in case of
extreme operating requirements.
Avoid any unprofessional handling of the scale and always consider, that the unit is a
high-quality measuring instrument.

Please note:
Only carry out those measures for maintenance and fault elimination, which are
described in this Manual.

Make sure, that the indicator is not subjected to water or moisture to avoid any risk of
fire or electrical short circuit.

Do not open the indicator housing to avoid risk of an electric shock!

Handling of Scale
Despite the sturdy design features of the scale, each unit contains sensitive electronic
components, which could be damaged through careless handling of the scale. Use both
hands to transport the scale, with at least one hand underneath the scale. (This will be
necessary, if the power supply, for example, is not close enough to the operating site
when recharging the rechargeable battery).

page 7
OPERATION OF KPZ 2-02-4

Positioning of Load
Always place the load carefully and central onto platform. Any sudden vibrations may
damage the scale sensor, so that it cannot be repaired. In general, the service life of the
sensor is prolonged by avoiding any vibrations. In order to achieve permanent, high
accuracy weighing results, do not leave loads on the platform for a long period of time
(e.g. overnight), this may deteriorate the performance of the weighing sensor.

Self-Test of Indicator
At initial switch-on, the scale will immediately activate its self-test. This test is visible via
the external countdown on the display
from –8888- to –0000-. Make sure, that all symbols are completely visible on the display
to avoid any subsequent recording of false measurement data. As soon as the Zero-
Balance status is displayed, the scale is ready for operation. If the scale does not
indicate “0”, then set the display to “0” again by using the ZERO key (0)
(if installed.)

Warm-up Stage
It is strongly recommended to allow for a warm-up period before using the scale.

Control of Accuracy
This scale has no mechanical wear parts. When using the scale properly and for the
intended purpose, there is normally no reduction in performance. However a prolonged
period of operation, external impacts or other various reasons may result in a deviation
of the accuracy. For your own safety, we recommend you make accuracy checks at
regular intervals by using fully calibrated weights.

Reasons for Possible Incorrect Weighing

The scale may display incorrect readings if:
◼ The power supply is not stable
◼ A load is put onto the scale after switching on during the self-test
◼ The platform is not freely movable
◼ The connection between indicator and platform is damaged

Maintenance and Servicing

Warning: Never use any acetone or any other ethereal solvents, such as thinner or
alcohol to clean the scale.
Daily Maintenance: Clean platform with soft, moist cloth and/or mild detergent.

Storage for Prolonged Periods of Time

Fully recharge the rechargeable battery (if supplied). Make sure, that no load is on
platform. Clean scale and store in dry, dust-free area. Recharge battery from time to
time, as the battery will discharge slowly during storage.
