1. How does the Two-Source Theory explain the similarity between the three versions of
this story? (In other words, who wrote it first? Who copied from whom?)
The Two-Source Theory explain the similarity between the three versions of this story by
showing the details that are similar. In Mark and Luke both say Jesus entered the house of
Simon. Also, all three talk about how Jesus was good and healed a women with a fever.

Mark wrote the story. Matthew and Luke copied it from Mark.

story?
The Two-Source theory explains the similarity between the two versions of this story by both
Matthew and Luke talk about hundreds of sheep. Both explain how he found his lost sheep.

Q wrote the story. Matthew and Luke copied Q.

3. What does Lk have in his version of the story that is typical of his entire Gospel?
Because Luke talks about rejoicing and has a theme of forgiving sins and rejoicing that.

Good!

4. Mk is missing the actual temptations found in Mt and Lk. According to the Two-Source
Theory, from where did Mt and Lk get this part of the story?

According to the Two-Source theory, they got it from the Christian oral tradition. No, the
Two-Source theory says they got it from a written source we call Q.

5. What is the biggest difference between the three temptations in Mt and Lk?

In Matthew, the second temptation to stand on the parapet and put god to the test but in
Luke this is the third temptation. Good.

6. Write down Peter’s response to Jesus’ question (“Who do you say that I am?”) in all
three versions. What word is common to all of them?
Matthew Peter is saying that you are the Messiah, the Son of the living God. In Mrk, Peter is
saying that “You are the Messiah” and in Luke, he is saying “the Messiah of God’. They all
have in common that he is the Messiah. Good.

7. Mt 16:17-19 has no parallel in Mk or Lk. What does Jesus say about Peter in these
verses?
Jesus says that “upon this rock you shall build my church.” He is telling Peter to build him a
church Good

8. What does Lk leave out that Mk and Mt include? Why might he have left this out?

He leaves out “get behind me Satan”. Meaning that Jesus wants Peter to think like God and
not Satan. In general, Luke takes out things that are negative about the disciples of Jesus.

9. What is the big difference in Mt’s version? (Hint: It’s in the first paragraph.) Why might
Mt have made this change?
The big difference is that Matthew says command while Mark says grant. He might have left
this change to make it seem harsher. In Matthew’s version, the MOTHER of James and John
make the ambitious request. This makes the disciples themselves seem less ambitious.

10. Why would Lk leave this story out of his Gospel? (Speculate)

He might of left this out because he did not find it as important and showing the good in God
and his story Again, Luke often leaves out negative things about the disciples.
