 INSTRUCTIONS FOR CASCADE LINERS
Using the Cascade system stand, up to eight 3 litre
liners can be used giving a total system volume of
approximately 24 Litres.
Connection and use:
Read all instructions thoroughly before attempting to
use this equipment, pay special attention to warnings
and precautions - these are indicated thus
Before use check the product has not reached its use by date.
This can be found printed on the liner and packaging label.
Setting up the cascade liner system
Ensure you are familiar with the setup of standard liners (see
reverse) and have read instructions for use supplied with the
tubing kits.
Ensure all canister fittings are connected and do not leak
Place black top liner in the canister closest to suction
controller 1
Place required number of blue top cascade liners (up to 7) into
remaining canisters, moving progressively from the black top
liner. 2
Starting at the suction source connect the vacuum tubing with the
taper connector to the vacuum port of the black top liner.
Using VacSax cascade tubing, connect the patient port of the
black top liner to the vacuum port of the first blue liner.
Using cascade tubing, connect the patient port of the first blue
liner to the vacuum port of the second blue liner, continue until
the last liner is reached. Connect your patient tubing to the
patient port of this liner. 3
Turn on suction controller and set to maximum vacuum level.
Liners will inflate when vacuum is applied
Confirm vacuum is present at the patient tubing by manually
occluding the patient tubing.
Visually check all liners have fully inflated.
Pre use checks
Check all liners are firmly pushed down into canisters.
Check all tubing connectors are pushed firmly onto patient and
vacuum ports.

3 Warnings
AFTER USE
IMPORTANT! Do not turn off vacuum source while
disconnecting the liner system.
Starting at the liner with the patient tubing connected; disconnect
patient tubing from the patient port. Remove the small patient
port stopper from the outer rim of the liner cap by twisting to snap
-off.
Press this stopper firmly into the patient port. Disconnect the
cascade tubing from the liner vacuum port by twisting the taper
connector, DO NOT PULL TUBING, press the large yellow
stopper firmly into the port, switch valve to the off position before
removing liner.
To remove the liner from canister, use the handles on the side of
the liner cap to lift the used liner carefully out of the canister -
dispose of in accordance with hospital policy
Repeat until black top liner is reached.
Disconnect suction tubing from black top liner. If tubing has been
contaminated remove and replace with new tubing.
Remove black top liner from canister - dispose of in accordance
with hospital policy
Switch off vacuum at the suction controller.

If stand has been contaminated, remove all tubing and
connectors and discard according to hospital procedures. Clean
stand using water based disinfectants, dry thoroughly after
cleaning.
Check the product has not reached its use by date. This can be

Once a liner is installed check vacuum and flow regularly

misleading volume indication
The volume indication given by these devices is for reference only.
VacSax liners have been designed as single use, therefore
they cannot be effectively decontaminated. The risk of cross
contamination or infection may remain after reprocessing.
The filter valve undergoes an irreversible conversion once
Single use wetted and cannot be reprocessed.
When using VacSax products with other equipment ensure all
relevant instructions for use have been read.
If a suction system is used with a closed suction system, use in
accordance with catheters’ manufacturers’ instructions
Plastic materials may degrade when subject to prolonged periods
of UV light - check liner performance regularly and replace if the
cap shows signs of deterioration.
