FINNISH BUSINESS
DELEGATION

Message from

Mr. Alexander Stubb

Minister for European Affairs
and Foreign Trade,
Ministry for Foreign Affairs
of Finland

It is a great pleasure for me to visit India for the first time in my

capacity as Minister for Foreign Trade. India is a fast growing economic
power with growing significance. It is an increasingly attractive market
for Finnish businesses. While many advanced economies are currently
facing various degrees of uncertainty, India’s economic growth has
remained remarkable.

India is already an important trading partner and an investment

destination for Finnish companies. As many as 120 Finnish companies
have established operations here and about a hundred are trading
with Indian businesses through local cooperation arrangements.
About 24 Indian companies have established operations in Finland.
However there remains a lot more to gain for both parties.

We have recently strengthened our efforts to intensify the relations

between our countries. Together with other ministries and key
stakeholders with an interest in India in Finland, we prepared
Finland’s India Action Plan. The main purpose of this action plan is to
investigate new opportunities for closer and increasing cooperation.
At the same time Finnish companies are invited to explore and use
India’s growing business opportunities.

Therefore I am proud to lead this distinguished delegation of Finnish

companies, representing the fields of energy and renewable energy,
engineering, mining and construction, metal industries and the
environment, ICT, health care and wellbeing, and finance. The purpose
of our visit is manifold: to foster and increase bilateral economic
relations between Finland and India, to enhance and support already
existing Finnish business activities in India, to gather information
on the new business opportunities in India and to encourage Indian
companies to invest in Finland.

2
A small country with limited resources like Finland can achieve
economic growth only by means of entering global markets. We
have chosen to focus our efforts on fields in which we have the best
chances of succeeding in the face of international competition. Finland
has world-class expertise in the environment and energy sector,
renewable energy sources, pharmaceutical and food diagnostics, data
and telecommunications technology as well as water technology and
waste management.

Finland has achieved great success amidst international

competition. Our approach is a combination of excellent public-
private partnerships, an educational system rated the best in the
world and the ability to develop practical solutions for tackling our
own challenges that stem from the scarcity of natural resources,
demanding climate conditions and vast distances. We can proudly
state that problem- solving is in our nature.

The programme of this visit provides excellent opportunities for both

Finnish and Indian authorities and businesses to exchange ideas,
network and strengthen existing relations. I am confident that this
visit will give us new perspectives on how to deepen economic
relations between our countries and offer new opportunities for our
businesses.

Mr. Alexander Stubb

Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade
