MENTAL HEALTH AT STUDENTS

Over millions or billions of the world’s populations are struggling with mental
issues and students are no exception. Plenty of us would say students have an easier
life than the past generations due to the modernize technologies we have today. Even
though these benefits are huge, we can not underestimate what would happen. And
this is what have happened. Burn-out, stress, anxiety, depression, and much more
mental issues are rapidly increasing, this is an alert sign, and we should act now to
control this situation as soon as possible.
One of the best options is to have a psychological counseling room. Majority of
parents are too busy with their work and can not spare some time for their children;
even some parents are “addicted” to their work and leave their babies with a
babysitter all-day long. In doing so the students do not have any dependable person
to share their agony. And having a psychologist in schools would become handy.
This can solve the problem much easier due to the needs to confess and issues that
the students face would be lighter.
Rather than going to counseling room, some may not have courage to express
their feelings to others. For this circumstance, schools should have one or two class
after school every month to inform students with knowledge about mental issues.
This can be useful where students would clearly know their symptoms and could
manage their health by themselves. And these classes can be a huge opportunity to
encourage shy students to share their emotions with psychologists at schools and
help their mental health.
But to study the change, a team from Harvard Medical School pulled data from
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which tracks deaths and their
“underlying cause” nationwide. The researchers found there were 11.8 deaths per
100,000 adolescents — aged 15 to 19 years — in 2017. That’s up from 2000, when
there were eight deaths per 100,000. And this is some caution news for us and for the
world to see the importance of this problem right now.
Schools should highly consider about the importance of mental issues at
students and act right now. Not only that, parents should take great care of their
children and look after them. G. Stanley Hall once said: “Adolescence is a new birth,
for the higher and more completely human traits are now born.”, without teenagers,
our society where we are standing right now and in the future would be a dream.
