Task 1: Experience as a Learner

Write an essay about your personal experience on how technology has influenced your life as a learner from
elementary, high school, and college. (50 points)
How Technology Influenced My Life as a Learner

When I was in Elementary, I sort of view technology for entertainment only. I still recall
spending time with my sisters watching our favorite cartoons on our tiny television. I observed when I
was in my early grades in school, the phones that they’ve using at that time were Symbian phones of
Nokia brand. Cellular texting and calling were the most used tool in communicating.

I actually began utilizing computers to learn when I was in fourth grade because of an EPP
project that required us to research terms and I look them up in a computer shop. At the time, blogs
were very popular, and it was also the year I first created a Facebook account. We run to the
computer store as soon as we have 5 pesos to play offline and online pc games like Plants vs. Zombies,
Feeding Frenzy, Zuma, and Y8 games.

The emergence of keypad phones with memory card slots began around my time in fifth
grade. Additionally, the use of eBooks on phones was on the horizon. I first saw touchscreen phones in
my final year of elementary school. However, at the time, large screens like tablets were far more
common in our classroom. Because of this, the cherry mobile tablet was my first ever device, a
decision I kind of regret now. Additionally, camera filters like Camera 360 and B16 were so common
that they were applied to the majority of my throwback images. Moreover, I edited my profile
photographs primarily using the Pizap editor. I'd also learn how to navigate YouTube, where I can play
my favorite songs whenever I use the internet. That is why technology at this time for me were mostly
used for fun because most of my activities with technology brought joy for me and writes my own
unique story of my childhood.

Beginning in junior high school, I began to see technology as a very potent instrument that
could bring actual things inside our four walls of classroom in a more engaging way. The thrilling
aspect was learning the advantages of how technology transforms the world while also having hands-
on experience creating products that can unleash my creativity was my description in those years.

We studied ICT in grade 7, and it was there that I learned more sophisticated concepts and
techniques on using computers. We learned about the fundamentals of computers, their components
—hardware and software—and their history. Additionally, we provided instruction on how to use the
Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, and other programs. We developed blogs, an
animation, and learned how to install an operating system on a computer while I was in eighth grade. I
wanted to highlight that we started having our own laptop and printer at home in the ninth grade.
This was the period when technology was the main reason I became addicted to watching K-dramas.
Additionally, flat screen smart TVs were present in every STEM classroom.
When I was in Grade 10, we studied programming. Of course, I have to admit that my favorite
rooms were in the air-conditioned ICT laboratories. Although ICT was not my favorite subject, I still
enjoyed it and learnt a lot.

During my senior year of high school, we focused more on the technical aspects of using software
and app design. The ICT related subjects aided me to be a responsible netizen by teaching us the online
netiquette, being aware of different internet frauds, and the laws that protect us from opportunists that
operates bad activities online.

I am incoming freshman when pandemic strikes. The transition of learning from face to face
classes to virtual setting made us learners to adjust. The need of having a smartphone and a stable internet
connection is a must since you can’t conduct or attend class when you don’t have this stuff. I am thankful
that I have scholarship that can provide these things and made me survive this online classes. In these
trying times, technology were the tools that education can count on for the learning to continue. All of the
things I learned earlier about technology became so helpful for me in my college journey.

All I can say is that technology not only helps me with my work but also helps me be my best self in
a variety of areas. The environment in class was more interesting since I was seeing the teacher's lessons in
simulations, films, and graphics instead of just envisioning them. Technology helps me express my
creativity, something I don't think I could do otherwise. Additionally, I became more interested in what I
was studying, which I believe helped me retain it for a much longer period of time. Overall, I consider
technology to be my partner in attaining my goals and being successful.
Task 2: Experience as a Future Teacher
Write an essay on how you are going to use technology when you will become a teacher?

How will I use Technology When I Become a Teacher

There are many ways to integrate technology in learning. We cannot deny that this tool will
continue to improve that is why, as a teacher I need also to improve my teaching and classroom in
which I will use the full potential of technology to have a meaningful learning on my students.

First on my list is I will use the combination of digital and non-digital instructional materials for
me to explain the lesson well. Examples are PowerPoints presentation, collaboration games that
involves technology, making portfolio using video frame, etc. As a science teacher, I have to be
innovative when there are things lacking such as laboratories. I can still bring laboratories in classrooms
using online simulations. Also, using QR codes as my way of checking the attendance of my students is
on my list. In, addition, it is important to highlight the proper use of technology for them to benefit from
it and not become the victim of the negative impact of technology.

Of course, it’s also very helpful to us teachers in computing their grades faster such as the
spreadsheets and penpen. Having database of student’s information identity such as the LIS for more
organized and easy access of information. Online enrollment forms every start of the school year for
more convenient and time efficient conduction of enrollment. There are a lot of things, a teacher can do
with technology in a classroom. The point there is that we should use it wisely and efficiently that can
effectively bring learning into fun, interactive and meaningful one.
