Weather Prediction
In This activity you are going to make a weather instrument which will help you
identify and predict weather conditions.
Procedure:
1. Select any one of the instruments you know that will help you determine the
condition of the weather in your area.
2. Make one and use it to identify the weather condition in your area.
3. Document it and explain the weather condition of the place where you are in.
4. If you are near the places with weather instruments you can also use it to
discuss the condition of the atmosphere at that particular time.
5. Act as if you are a meteorologist measuring the chosen condition in your local.
6. You can use video or pictures or Vlog the condition. Duration 1-2 minutes only.
7. Indicate sources and references.
8. How did this activity help you?
Weather instrument: Building a Liquid Change Barometer Materials
Glass jar, Bottle of softdrinks/ketchup, water, food coloring, and , Rubber band
Procedure
Step 1.
Wash a 12-ounce clear glass bottle that has a straight neck and an 18-ounce clear
glass jar, making sure to remove any labels. An empty 18-ounce peanut butter jar is
a good choice for this barometer project.
Step 2. 9Assemble the barometer by first placing the bottle inside the jar in an
inverted position. Fill the jar with just enough water to come up over the mouth of the
bottle by an inch or so.
Step 3. Add a few drops of food coloring to the water before slightly tilting the jar to
allow air bubbles to release from the bottle.
Step 4. Place the rubber band around the outside of the jar at the water level. Step 5.
Find a spot to set up your barometer station where it's not exposed to direct sun,
artificial temperature changes, or in a location where it could be accidentally tipped
over.
Step 6. Observe water levels rise as air pressure rises to predict fair conditions, and
drop as pressure falls to predict rain.
