 Discovering Earth's Air Pressure

This activity will help students understand the existence of air pressure on earth.
 Graphing the Weather
Students take weather readings using simple weather instruments and predict the
weather in this lesson. They take readings for a month during a season and chart
it. With the information, they can graph what is happening with each instrument
each day and use the data to show patterns the storms follow for that particular
season.
 Safe Activities for Diverse Weather
Students will observe, measure, and record daily weather conditions during
different seasons. They will also determine what activities are safe to participate in
during various types of weather.
 TRB 4:2 - Investigation 8 - Weather Forecasts
Students will learn how to predict and evaluate weather forecasts.
 Temperature
Students build water thermometers out of straws and film canisters.
 The Changing Life of Air Pressure
These activities will demonstrate that heating air will cause air to rise and become
a low-pressure area.
 Weather Tools of the Trade
In this lesson students will learn about the basic meteorological instruments
(thermometer, barometer, weather vane, anemometer, and rain gauge), how they
are used, data that can be collected from them, and why we keep records of the
data.
 What is a Barometer?
Students will learn about the barometer and how it helps to predict the weather.
 What's Going to Happen at Any Given Barometer Reading?
Students will learn to recognize simple weather patterns.
