Service Training

The setting MANUAL is especially recommended when working in sensitive

areas and on bridges.

The operator uses intermediate positions according to experiences gathered in

the past. The BVM will maintain the chosen vertical amplitudes at a constant
level throughout the process, but does not avoid jumping of the drum!

5.2. Automatic mode

In AUTOMATIC mode (switch (1) in position left ) the operator can additionally
influence the maximum compaction force and thereby the maximum vertical
amplitude by turning the rotary switch (2) accordingly. The stage to be selected
depends on material, layer thickness, soil conditions and the experience of the
operator. Once the permissible soil stiffness is reached, the Variocontrol system
will reduce the compaction force. Jumping operation is already noticed at a very
early stage and the system will be adjusted accordingly. The adaptation to the
compaction conditions results in a uniform compaction and load bearing
capacity.

5.3. Test mode

If the VARIOCONTROL roller is equipped with a BTM-system, a compaction
control is also possible. In this case there a distinct differentiation between the
operating modes is necessary. Compaction control must be performed with a
constant amplitude in manual mode (switch 3).
The measuring amplitude for the compaction measurement depends on the
amplitude value that has been used for compaction and the required measuring
depth.

Recommended adjustments for measuring passes

Measuring depth (depending on soil) Amplitude/stage

30 cm 0,6 mm stage 2
60 cm 1,1 1,5 mm stage 3 + 4
> 60 cm 1,8 2, 4 mm stage 5 + 6

During the measuring pass the chosen amplitude is mechanically locked in

order to rule out possible adjustment deviations. The selected measuring
amplitude is automatically printed on the record for documentation.
